CVS Denies ‘Partnership’ with Planned Parenthood as Pharmacies Show Hesitancy for Abortion

It’s always a bad look when one organization vehemently disavows all ties to another. But that’s exactly what happened to Planned Parenthood of Greater New York when CVS made it clear that no matter what the abortion vendor claims, the two aren’t best friends.

In its annual report, Planned Parenthood wrote that it had a “strategic partnership with CVS.” That language has since been removed from the site after CVS released a statement denying any formal partnership with the abortion vendor.

Clearly, the nation’s largest pharmacy chain wants no ties to a death merchant like Planned Parenthood.

But it gets better. According to a new study from the University of Southern California, since 2023, just 2% of abortion pill prescriptions have been filled at retail pharmacies in states with telehealth abortion. In other words, pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid dispense just a tiny fraction of the nation’s abortion pills.

That’s a huge victory for Students for Life of America (SFLA) and the pro-life movement writ large.

Since 2023, when the FDA first authorized retail pharmacies to provide Chemical Abortion Pills, Students for Life has called on pharmacies to take a stand against offering the lethal pills.

In March 2024, SFLA President Kristan Hawkins sent letters to the CEOs of the nation’s leading pharmacies, urging them to stay out of the “business of death.” Students for Life also staged a protest outside the Chicago headquarters of Walgreens, condemning the chain’s decision to choose death.

Last year, SFLA launched a nationwide week of “Stop Pharmacy Abortions” protests featuring demonstrations outside pharmacies across the country, including two major rallies outside CVS and Walgreens headquarters.

Now, the University of Southern California’s study shows that work has borne fruit, successfully discouraging retail pharmacies from playing a major role in the abortion industry.

That’s a major win, one that should inspire everyone in the pro-life movement to keep fighting, knowing that our work causes change — and that change saves lives.
