How Students for Life LAUNCHED My Political Career

I attended Northwest Missouri State University from August 2018 until I graduated in June 2023. While there, I earned a B.S. in Environmental Geology with a minor in Political Science.

One highlight of my experience from when I was a student was being able to organize our very own local Pro-Life March, the “Northwest Missouri Pro-Life March,” that brought together communities from southern Iowa, northwest Missouri, southeast Nebraska, and northwest Kansas. We were able to make this such a large event that we drew protesters.

My activism with Students for Life also allowed me the opportunity to lobby our lawmakers in Missouri to help support laws that embraced Life. One of the greatest opportunities I had, however, was to attend the National Leadership Collective as a Students for Life Action State Captain, now known as the Charlie Kirk Courage Fellowship.

My involvement with Students for Life helped me launch my career because it allowed me to build experience on top of my Political Sciences minor and ultimately begin a career in politics. Two weeks out of college, I had the opportunity to work for Never Back Down, Inc., a Super PAC that supported Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid during the 2024 primary season. It was there that I served in a grassroots capacity in which I was able to use the skills I learned from my days as an Action Captain to recruit, train, and mobilize voters and activists during the 2024 Iowa Caucus cycle. My work helped pave the way for Governor DeSantis to take second place behind President Donald Trump.

After the Caucus, I joined Students for Life of America in a full-time capacity as the Midwest Regional Coordinator, helping provide resources to the next wave of the pro-life movement through the states of Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Through this work, I have been able to train hundreds of students at over 70 schools to support their pro-life convictions on and off campus. After serving two years in the role, I am now preparing to switch over to the Students for Life Action team as the new Political Operation and Field Liaison Manager, where I will assist our Field Team in conducting legislative operations, organizing door-knocking deployments, and allowing our students a greater look into the world of pro-life politics. This is a fantastic full circle moment for me, and I look forward to it!

A highlight of my time with Students for Life so far has been the ability to see the lasting impact we make on our students’ lives through mentorship and training. Another benefit is that I have had the opportunity to travel to unique cities and campuses, each with their own cultures.

One of the special projects I worked on was defeating the radical pro-abortion ballot initiative in Nebraska, Ballot Initiative 439. It would have legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Through the coordination of long hours of door knocking, tabling on campuses, and meeting community members where they were to talk to them face-to-face, we achieved the greatest success I have seen to this day.

I plan to continue my pro-life activism so that we can achieve a point in this country and throughout the world where abortion becomes not only illegal, but unthinkable.

Outside of my time with Students for Life, I have added one of the highest honors of the pro-life movement: the title of “Dad” to my two beautiful children, my son Griffin and my daughter Margaret.

The greatest advice I received from my mentor is that if you truly believe in something, you must buy in. Buying into the mission at hand is extremely important, especially if you are pursuing a pro-life career. There are going to be days that you are out in subzero temperatures. There will be days when you are door knocking in temperatures over 100 degrees, with 98% humidity. There will be days that you get yelled at and cursed at by pro-abortion advocates. But it is important to know what you are doing it for. Live out your mission and truly believe in it. This can be used in any capacity, whether you are working in the pro-life movement, a different role, or just living your everyday life. Buy into your mission and carry it with you wherever you go.
