Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire: Abortion Lobby Proves They Don’t Care About ‘Safe, Legal, and Rare’

The abortion lobby’s former slogan was “safe, legal, and rare” — but in the wake of responses to new federal rulings on Chemical Abortion Pills, we’re calling their bluff. Between the evidence of how dangerous these life-ending drugs are, to the “law be damned, sell them anyways” calls from pro-abortion government officials, and the data showing the high usage of the pills, the truth has been made abundantly clear. Safety, legality, and infrequency were never the goal; their push for Chemical Abortion Pills proves this motto was a bucket of bunk. Here’s why:

The Opposite of Safe

Chemical Abortion Pills open women up to infertility, injury, death, and abuse.

Infertility: As SFLA reported earlier, infertility following an abortion can occur for the following (but not limited to) reasons: 1) if a woman is an Rh-negative blood type while her partner is a Rh-positive but no blood screening was done prior and a shot of Rh immunoglobulin was not administered in time, antibodies may attack future pregnancies and cause miscarriage; 2) a woman may experience more pre-term births following an abortion, which can potentially lead to the death of future children and damage to a woman’s body; and 3) abortions increase the risk of ectopic pregnancies, which can kill both mother and preborn child.

Injury & Death: Women can suffer both emotional and physical trauma following Chemical Abortion. Studies show that one-third of post-abortive women experience mental trauma — and such trauma leads women to be 110% more likely to struggle with severe alcohol abuse, marijuana use increased 230%, and a 155% increased risk of suicide. Physical trauma can include severe pain, heavy bleeding, infections, fever, hemorrhage, blood clots, undetected ectopic pregnancies, vomiting, etc. Maternal death can also occur as nearly 30 women have been reported of dying from these dangerous drugs — and without a National Abortion Reporting Law, who knows the true number?

Abuse: Chemical Abortion Pills are tools in an abusers’ belt to eliminate an inconvenience, and abusers secretly feed or force-feed women into taking them. This can be human traffickers, parents who are embarrassed their child became pregnant, guardians who are sweeping sexual abuse of minors under the rug, disillusioned spouses or partners, extramarital lovers, etc.

They Don’t Care If It’s Legal

“Rules for thee, but not for me,” said the abortion lobby en masse following the Texas federal judge’s ruling on mifepristone as many actually encouraged ignoring the ruling before the Supreme Court put a hold on it — because when you don’t like a law or rule, it’s okay to just ignore it, right? Try that with speed limits and see if you like what happens (cha-ching!).

Abortion supporters calling for “enforcement discretion” — which is code for “biased enforcement in favor of personally held political views” — include Oregon Senator Ron Wyden who said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), doctors, and pharmacies “can and must go about their jobs like nothing has changed.”  Except that’s not how our system of government works; when laws are passed and court rulings are made, we must abide by them. The alternative is anarchy.

That reality didn’t stop New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from also encouraging the deliberate refusal to acknowledge this ruling, ironically calling it “mockery of our system, a mockery of our democracy and a mockery of our law.” The pot sure knows how to call the kettle. South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace also concurred with “ignoring it at this point.”

These pro-abortion politicians have made the abortion lobby’s stance crystal clear: legal or not, they’re not letting go of Chemical Abortion Pills.

It’s Certainly Not Rare

As mentioned previously, while our abortion data isn’t perfect or complete due to our lack of a National Abortion Reporting Law (and that’s a problem in itself), the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion think tank, reports that Chemical Abortion Pills now account for more than half of all United States abortions. This is a frightening statistic when we understand the true harms these life-ending drugs can bring to women — not to mention the preborn.

While never acceptable, we must recognize that “safe, legal, and rare” has been replaced with merely “abortion is good no matter who it hurts or what laws it breaks.” The abortion lobby is getting more extreme as time goes on — let us accordingly become even more passionate and dedicated  in our fight for life.
