An SFLA-led Campaign to Track Endocrine Disrupting Mifepristone in America’s Water Gains New Leaders

“Because of negligent FDA policy and the failure to enforce the Comstock Act, more than 50 tons of chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains go into our waterways every year. With infertility on the rise, we need to know: what is the extent of the damage?” said SFLA President Kristan Hawkins. “The letter out from 14 Attorneys General making the commonsense request that mifepristone be tracked shows there is a growing coalition of those who don’t want to drink abortions.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (06-10-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins praised the 14 State Attorneys General who signed onto a letter sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) led by Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway. The letter adds new voices to a growing coalition, built by SFLA, calling for accountability and information about the extent of abortion water pollution, permitted by negligent FDA polices and the failure of the Trump Administration to enforce the Comstock Act that says abortifacients cannot be delivered in the mail. After meeting with the EPA, SFLA championed a movement-wide effort to require that abortion water pollution, specifically mifepristone, be monitored through a revamped “Safe Drinking Water Act,” which is designed to monitor and protect crystal clear drinking water. An EPA comment period about a “contaminants of concern” tracking list just closed, with Trump Administration officials now needing to evaluate the concerns raised.

The Missouri AG is joined on the letter by: Alabama AG Steve Marshall, Alaska AG Cori Mills, Arkansas AG Tim Griffin, Florida AG James Uthmeier, Idaho AG Raul Labrador, Indiana AG Todd Rokita, Kansas AG Kris Kobach, Kentucky AG Russell Coleman, Louisiana AG Liz Murrill, Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers, Oklahoma AG Gentner Drummond, South Carolina AG Alan Wilson, and Texas AG Ken Paxton.

“The almost 10-yearlong effort to include environmental concerns to the list of problems created by Chemical Abortion Pills gained new champions today,” said Hawkins, who first testified about abortion water pollution when California was working to force Chemical Abortion Pills onto publicly funded college and university campuses.

In our comment, “SFLA asks that mifepristone be tracked, given the reasonable cause for concern that regular and ongoing exposure to a progesterone blocker is impacting public health, endangered species, and the environment.”

For the last 4 years, Students for Life Action Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick has led the Attorneys General outreach, noting that with groups in all 50 states, pro-life Americans nationwide want to be protected from abortion industry traffickers, predators with pills, and abortion water pollution.

“Attorneys general have a unique role to play in protecting crystal clear drinking water,” said Hamrick.

The leader in identifying environmental risks from abortion water pollution, SFLA has filed EIGHT citizen petitions to the FDA, including concerns for endangered species, which also face risks.
