SFL’s Kristan Hawkins sends letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, launching new efforts to call for Comstock Act Enforcement & noting that debarring Planned Parenthood needs pursuit
“We’ve been more than patient, but no more. The Comstock Act — already law — says Chemical Abortion Pills can’t be mailed, and the word-games played by the Biden Administration to ignore that must end,” said SFLA President Kristan Hawkins. “Babies are dying and then are flushed away by the TONS. Meanwhile, abusers and sex traffickers LOVE death-by-mail. Women taking the pills late in pregnancy are facing life-threatening issues. And elected officials keep pretending that this level of destruction can be ignored. Attorney General Pam Bondi needs to enforce the law or step aside for someone who will.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (03-30-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins announced that a renewed effort to focus on the Comstock Act is launching, beginning with a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi at the Department of Justice (DOJ). “Ending this legal farce is in the control of the DOJ, as a memorandum opinion launched the wild, wild west of online Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking killing by the thousands today,” said Hawkins. During the Biden Administration, then Assistant Attorney General Christopher Schroeder wrote a memorandum for the U.S. Postal Service to justify ignoring the plain letter of the law. He penned that Chemical Abortion Pills could be sent because the sender would not know that the receiver “will use them unlawfully.”

“Did Biden’s crack legal team believe that the pills would be used for arts and crafts? It’s a safe assumption that pills designed to disrupt and kill life in the womb would be used for that evil purpose,” Hawkins said. “No matter what was said in 2022, what we know today is that entire networks have been set up in Blue States and around the world for the purpose of violating the laws and ending lives in pro-life Red States. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s profanity laced response to Louisiana’s Attorney General Liz Murrill is proof of the intent to violate the law. Shield laws shield criminal operations.”
In fact, Democrats have done a better job at noting the reality of the Comstock Act. In 2024, Hawkins noted: “Clearly the abortion lobby knows that they are breaking the law, when you consider that the Washington Post editorial board called for it to be repealed though such efforts ‘reinforce its validity.’ This public acknowledgment that a law is being broken came in the New York Times as well this week, when former Planned Parenthood executive, now U.S. Senator Tina Smith announced her plans to go after the Comstock Act in the days ahead. No one can claim ignorance of the law with such loud voices noting its reality.”
Regarding the current Trump Administration, Students for Life has flagged numerous missteps in recent months, as the DOJ dropped the ball again and again when it comes to defending LIFE in Law.

“Students for Life was proud to stand with U.S. Rep. Mary Miller this month, to launch the federal ‘Clean Water for All Life Act,’ and we have been relentless in our calls to federal agencies to review Chemical Abortion Pills for the deadly harms caused by them. But today it’s the federal government that is ignoring a law designed to stop Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking through the mail, and so our call to the DOJ is to please engage,” said Hawkins.
