Republicans & Democrats both Miss the Mark on Abortion with the Youth Vote, Reports New Students for Life’s Survey USA Poll

“With the midterms right around the corner, both Republicans and Democrats need to pivot on their abortion policy. The Youth Vote represents the largest bloc today. They don’t buy what the Democrats are selling, and they support action on issues that many Republican leaders have failed to move on,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “Our Survey USA poll of registered voters details a path forward for legislators and leaders who want to understand the nuanced views of one of the most critical group of voters. Leaders often say they want to be in ‘the middle’ on abortion and this poll shows we aren’t even close to reaching a middle ground. This details how to lead on LIFE given the political realities of the moment.”

Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement poll, in partnership with Survey USA Today and Vinea Research, available here.

A Few Key Takeaways:

Once again, almost 7 in 10 support limits on abortion.

LESS THAN 1 in 10 support the Democratic Party’s Abortion Views.

MORE THAN 9 in 10 support the kind of health & safety standards for Chemical Abortion Pills that the GOP has failed to restore, with 94% supporting testing for Abortion Water Pollution.

Less than 1 in 4 (22%) Youth Votes found Planned Parenthood vital. In fact, 50% of Youth Voters believe Planned Parenthood can be replaced with the massive number of currently-federally funded healthcare providers that offer all the healthcare they claim to sell — except abortions.

And by a margin if almost 2 to 1, registered Youth Voters support an investigation of Planned Parenthood … so let’s Debar & Fire the Nation’s No. 1 Abortion Vendor!

WASHINGTON D.C. (01-20-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins released our annual survey of registered Youth Voters in advance of the anniversary of RoevWade and Doe v. Bolton to detail the views of the largest voting bloc in America on the human rights issue of our day – abortion. Hawkins observed, “Once again, this crucial voting bloc does not buy what the Democrats are selling and will support so many more pro-life protections than the Republicans will advance. The Youth Vote (ages 18-45) is vital for GOP success, and as Gallup reported last year, pro-life identification is rising. That means those who want to win elections need to read these findings and get to work. Politicians talk about reaching out to those in the middle, and our results show there is a lot of common ground available that is being ignored.”

READ MORE AT NATIONAL REVIEW: After Charlie Kirk Assassination, Young Americans Increasingly Fear Speech Will Be Met by Violence

The Poll was conducted by Survey USA in conjunction with Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement and Vinea Research in early January 2026. The focus is on registered Youth Voters, making this not a look at a demographic as a whole, but of a committed political audience.

The evaluation looks at their opinions on issues dominating debates today, such as their thoughts on eventually prosecution of mothers who seek abortion, support for on-going pro-life & pro-families policies, and on how to regulate Chemical Abortion Pills, now used to kill the vast majority of those who die by intentional abortion. The crumbling façade of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion vendor, is explored along with a new look at how those impacted by the death of Charlie Kirk view violence when it erupts after free speech events.

Hawkins noted that the poll examines key issues and current events. We looked at:

  • Big-picture views on abortion to determine the level of support for abortion limits, including a detailed looked at stage of development, pain, and whether younger voters want women who get abortions to face punishments.
  • Views on the specifics of Chemical Abortion Pill policy and the legislators who work to protect the preborn, their mothers, and the environment. (Spoiler alert: Those most targeted for Chemical Abortion Pill use – by margins of more than 9 in 10 – want protections for mothers in place and environmental testing.)
  • Views on the nation’s number one abortion vendor, Planned Parenthood. (Spoiler alert: This generation believes Planned Parenthood can be replaced, and there was a13-percentge point drop ion support for the mega-abortionist after voters learned more about accusations against them.)
  • Support for a debarment investigation of Planned Parenthood, a real look at how they have conducted business. (Spoiler alert:After a discussion of the allegations of misconduct by Planned Parenthood (financial mismanagement, failure to report sex crimes, quality of care lapses, etc.), almost HALF (46%) said they would support a federal investigation with only 27 % opposing a review (and only 14% strongly opposed it.)
  • Support for help for young families with a look at whether there was MORE support for abortion limits is there was more help. (Spoiler alert: More help equals more support for abortion limits. At the beginning of the survey, almost 7 in 10 (66%) said that they supported laws limiting abortion. But in the context of considering their support for real, substantial help for families, of the 34% who initially did not want to see limits on abortion, 21% indicated that with more help, more limits were acceptable – a 7-percentage point increase in support for abortion limits when combined with support for families.
  • Concern for those engaged in free speech, especially timely in light of Charlie Kirk’s tragic death. (Spoiler alert: When asked about whether colleges and universities hold prioritize and financially support free speech, more than 9 in 10 said yes, and more than 9 in 10 registered Youth Voters express concern for those engaging in free speech, given the current violence on campus.)
  • Rejection of the courts as the deciding vote on people’s humanity. (Spoiler alert: ZERO% of youth voters believe human right are conferred by a court.)

“Especially with the midterm elections looming, legislators who want to build bridges to pro-life voters and those who want less abortion can learn a lot from these results. The Youth Vote is not locked down by the abortion lobby, but, within this key demographic, we see that pro-life and pro-abortion loyalists number about the same … but pro-life voter intensity is well known,” said Hawkins. “And a large contingency doesn’t support a radical abortion ideology. Just consider the last election.”

As we have previously reported, in the last election, when offered the choice between the most radical pro-abortion ticket in U.S. History, this demographic did not embrace Kamala Harris. She lost ground as 46% of voters 18-29 voted for Donald Trump, according to the Tufts University CIRCLE analysis. Millennials went much farther in their support, notes Deseret News, as Trump “did better among Millennial voters, closing in on Harris, who was ahead by only 1 percentage point.”
