Louisiana State University – Alexandria (LSUA) may be a small campus, but it’s making a significant impact through its newer Students for Life of America (SFLA) group, the Generals for Life. Founded just this year, this passionate group has already made remarkable strides in promoting the pro-life message and engaging their fellow students in meaningful dialogue about the dignity of Life.

From the start, the Generals for Life group set out to build a strong foundation rooted in education, compassion, and outreach. They began by hosting a table at LSUA’s organization browse, where they recruited new members and shared the pro-life movement’s mission with students across campus. The Louisiana heat couldn’t stop this group from engaging with everyone who passed by their table! Their presence at the event not only raised awareness but also created a welcoming, respectful space for students to learn more about what it means to stand for Life.

Soon after, in September, the group hosted the SFLA Planned Parenthood Cemetery of the Innocents Display on campus. This display serves as a powerful visual demonstration representing the over 400,000 lives lost to abortion by Planned Parenthood. With the closing of the last two Louisiana Planned Parenthood facilities, the display offered the chance to show students why the fight against Planned Parenthood is not over, as federal funding is only paused for one year. This event was a catalyst for conversation and reflection, sparking important discussions about the role of businesses like Planned Parenthood in the abortion industry. Through this impactful display, Generals for Life encouraged their classmates to consider the realities of abortion and the importance of advocating for both women and their children.

The group’s first official meeting marked another exciting milestone. The members hosted a local pro-life speaker from Louisiana Right to Life. The director of the Cenla Pregnancy Center also came and spoke. She shared her experiences supporting women in need and offering life-affirming alternatives to abortion. This collaboration helped connect students to community resources while inspiring them to see how they, too, can make a difference in others’ lives.

Looking ahead, Generals for Life has a full and inspiring calendar of events that reflect their mission to both protect and celebrate Life. They are organizing a Pro-Life Vigil Night to honor the lives lost to abortion. This will serve as a time of remembrance, reflection, and prayer for healing. The group is also planning a Culture of Life Festival, a joyful community event celebrating the beauty of all Life on campus. Additionally, the group will host a cookoff fundraiser to benefit the local Pregnancy Help Center (PHC), the Family Justice Center, and other area organizations that support mothers and families in need. Through these efforts, Generals for Life is not only advocating for the unborn but also extending compassion to women, families, and communities.

The group’s passion is perhaps best expressed by its president, Hagan Menard, who shared:

“The abortion movement has disempowered women by convincing them that motherhood is a burden rather than a gift. Part of empowering women is helping them see their worth and the beauty of their ability to give Life. Being a mother is one of the greatest and deepest joys, and as a society, we have a responsibility to help women embrace that truth and step confidently into that role.”

Vice President Ava Fontenot also shared, “I am very proud to be a part of Generals for Life. We are not only dedicated to raising awareness for abortions, but we are also dedicated to raising awareness for all life. To practice this dedication, for Christmas, I have proposed to this group that we collect presents to donate to less fortunate children who may be waking up Christmas morning with little to nothing. It is in ways like this that Generals for Life values all lives, and we would like to extend that value to everyone.”

Beyond their campus, the Generals for Life are preparing to take their message to the national stage. Members plan to attend the Pro-Life March and SFLA’s National Pro-Life Summit in Washington, D.C., where they’ll join thousands of students and advocates united in defending Life.

In just a few short months, LSUA’s Generals for Life have proven what can happen when passion meets purpose. Their dedication to protecting the unborn, empowering women, and fostering a genuine culture of Life is transforming their campus and community. With leaders like Hagan Menard and an energized team behind him, it’s clear that this new group is here to stay and lead the next generation of pro-life advocates with faith, compassion, and courage.
