As the U.S. Supreme Court kicks off its October term, Students for Life of America (SFLA) is actively engaged in shaping the legal landscape when it comes to protecting children inside and outside of the womb.
In 2025, SFLA signed onto several amicus briefs in pending cases that reflect our mission to protect Life from abortion or transgender mutilation, defend parental rights, shield children from abortion propaganda and “medical” overreach, and uphold constitutional freedoms. Our partners include Advancing American Freedom (AAF), Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA), Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), Ratio Christi, and others.

Parental Rights & Transgender Mutilation Forced on Minors
SFLA joined amicus briefs in the following pending SCOTUS cases that challenge school policies undermining parental authority:
These cases address whether schools can socially transition children without notifying parents. According to the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), which also asked for the U.S. Supreme Court to take on the Lee v. Poudre case, “The case involves two Colorado families whose sixth-grade daughters attended a public middle school in Fort Collins. According to court filings, the girls were exposed to gender ideology behind closed doors, including a school-sponsored ”Genders and Sexualities Alliance’ meeting where ” teachers reportedly gave out transgender flags, pressured kids to ‘come out,’ and told students not to say to their parents.
Similarly, according to ADF, Foote v. Ludlow deals with “Public school officials in Ludlow, Massachusetts, enacted a gender-identity policy that excludes parents from any knowledge or involvement in key decisions regarding their children’s care, blatantly violating parents’ fundamental right to direct their kids’ upbringing, health care, and education.”
SFLA supports parental involvement, as the abortion and transgender industry’s favorite tactic is to separate children from their parents, especially when it comes to chemical castration of minors, which leads to irreversible damage.
First Amendment & Pregnancy Help Centers
This fall, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments from the faith-based First Choice Women’s Resource Centers in New Jersey in First Choice Women’s Resource Center, Inc. v. Platkin. In 2023, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin started targeting this PHC by subpoenaing sensitive information about donors, staff, and advertisers out of fear that this center is “deceiving” women about abortion referrals. SFLA joined the brief to defend the center’s free speech rights and oppose politically motivated targeting of pro-life organizations.

“The First Amendment protects First Choice’s right to speak about its beliefs freely, exercise its faith, associate with like-minded individuals and organizations, and continue to provide its free services in a caring and compassionate environment to people facing unplanned pregnancies,” Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Hawley said in a statement.
Abortion Law & Parental Consent
It wouldn’t be SCOTUS season without Planned Parenthood.
In Montana, et al. v. Planned Parenthood, et al., SFLA backs Montana’s law requiring parental notification and consent for minors seeking abortions. We believe parents should be involved in life-altering decisions affecting their children and preborn grandchildren. Despite SCOTUS denying the petition, parental notification remains a key debate point in this issue, one on which we firmly stand with parents.
Why We Joined
- Protecting Parental Rights: Parents, not pro-abortion pundits, should have the right to protect children from gender ideology and chemical/surgical castration or abortion.
- Defending Free Speech: Pregnancy Help Centers (PHCs) must be free to share life-affirming messages without biased government interference.
- Advocating for Life: We support laws that protect the preborn and involve parents in abortion decisions.
- Ensuring Donor Privacy: Advocacy depends on the freedom to support causes without fear of exposure or retaliation.
The Bottom Line
SFLA’s 2025 Supreme Court strategy reflects a commitment to Life, liberty, and parental authority. By joining forces with allied organizations, we’re helping shape the legal landscape on issues that matter most to families and the future of the Pro-Life Generation (PLG).
