On The Ground In The Lone Star State

On July 4th, floods impacted various areas across Texas, namely Kerr County. Many families lost loved ones, their homes, and belongings.

Upon learning about the devastating flood, Standing With You took action to help those affected. After spreading the word about our fundraiser, we raised a total of $15,875, allowing us to purchase several items, including 10,179 diapers for flood relief! From there, we connected with many churches and pregnancy help organizations across Central Texas to see how we could help. Then on Friday, July 18th, I packed supplies for babies, toddlers, and their families, brought my own babies, and got on the road to Kerr County! This was an experience that I will never forget.

Our first stop was Faith Christian Church. We brought diapers, wipes, baby toys, and baby clothes. An Abilene Christian University student volunteer, home for the summer, arrived from picking up more supplies we’d ordered. Even our friends from Trotter House, a pregnancy help center serving moms and families on the other side of Central Texas, drove out to help us deliver diapers and wipes. Working together to unload all the materials as babies and toddlers played around us was a beautiful picture of unity and teamwork.

After we’d gotten most of the supplies out, we had an opportunity to learn more about the church’s experience since the flood. It hurt my heart to hear about their community members lost. But there was beauty in discovering that Faith Christian Church helped to rebuild my smalltown years ago after a similar natural disaster.

At our second stop, The Pregnancy Resource Center in Kerrville, we had the most wonderful time unloading the materials, getting to know them, hearing about their center and even getting a tour. All our volunteers loved learning about how they have been serving their clients for many years and were so glad to support them as they serve their clients in this restorative season.

Our third stop was on the way back home where we brought formula to another pregnancy help center! There, we also delivered clothes, diapers, and toys for a client family’s toddler and their baby on the way next month. We were even able to replace a few pieces of furniture lost in the flood. I am so glad to have met the sweet family! Standing With You supported Trotter House in replenishing their diaper stash last Friday, July 25th. After the flood, the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) reached out to them in need of diapers, and they graciously gave them 27 boxes of diapers to support the families affected in the Austin area. We are so thankful to have been able to replace the items they had donated and to have partnered with them in delivering supplies to Kerr County!

It was beautiful to see it all come together so that those affected could feel a little more confident moving forward. Altogether, we were able to help three pregnancy help centers, one church, and a family! Even more so, the ultimate impact will be even greater. Our hope is that this provides some relief for the families and organizations that lost so much to the floods and that it blesses them to know that they are not alone. We are so thankful to all who donated and made this possible for Kerr County and Travis County residents.
