In a stunning win for Life, Costco Wholesale has announced that it will not be selling the Chemical Abortion Pill, mifepristone, at any of its more than 500 pharmacy locations across the United States, according to a report from Bloomberg News.
The decision comes amid ongoing national discussion about the dangers of the retail availability of Chemical Abortion Pills—drugs that are deadly to the preborn and extremely harmful to mothers. Students for Life America (SFLA) and Students for Life Action (SFLAction), along with a coalition of faith-based activist groups, had urged Costco to stop selling mifepristone at its pharmacies.
This has been a top SFLA and SFLAction priority, with a Halt Pharmacy Abortions campaign that kicked off in 2023. Other corporations that were targeted Walmart, as well as the grocery giant, Kroger.
A statement from Costco, cited by Bloomberg, indicated that the retailer has not observed consumer demand for mifepristone, which runs contrary to the mainstream narrative that consumers crave chemical abortions. A shift in the culture towards Life? We sure hope so, in Jesus’ name.
Mifepristone, used in combination with another drug called misoprostol, is authorized to kill preborn children up to 2 ½ months (10 weeks) of gestation. The drug’s availability has been subject to legal challenges and shifting regulations in recent years, placing increasing focus on where and how patients can access it—all due to our hard-pressed efforts in the Pro-Life Generation (PLG) to educate the masses about the severe dangers of these drugs.
Costco Wholesale insists its reason was not based on pressure from groups like ours. We at PLG never expected an acknowledgement or public change of corporate heart on record. But we would still like to commend the pro-life movement for speaking sense into Costco Wholesale, resulting in saving the lives of the preborn and women. We hope that more companies follow suit, and maybe the changing of hearts and minds does come in bulk after all.
