“Medical bills are no joke. What Adriana Smith and her family need right now is concrete, compassionate support—not the politicization of their situation,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Students for Life of America is coming to their aid by launching a LifeFunder Page to help pay for Smith and her baby’s medical needs. We stand with Adriana and Baby Smith, just as we stand with every mother and child throughout America in need of help and support.”

WASHINGTON, DC (05-19-2025) – Students for Life of America and our Standing With You initiative are stepping in to support the family of Adriana Smith.
Adriana Smith was a nurse, a daughter, and a devoted mom. At just nine weeks pregnant, she suffered a devastating medical emergency and was declared “brain dead.” However, her preborn baby boy still has a heartbeat—and a chance at life.
While Adriana can no longer speak for herself, her son’s life still matters. Her doctors are doing the right thing by treating him as a unique patient. Right now, the baby is about 21 weeks old, and Adriana’s doctors want to give him just a little more time, until he’s fully grown to 32 weeks, before they safely deliver him via cesarean.
The financial costs of medical care for Adriana and her son are a burden the family’s concerned about.
The pro-life Georgia law, the Living Infants and Equality Act, protects life once a heartbeat can be detected, usually around six weeks post-conception. Pro-life efforts helped pass the law and keep it in place, even when activist judges challenged it (as we reported here).
We understand how expensive medical bills can be and we are ready to Stand With Adriana and her baby boy. So we’re taking action to help Adriana, her baby, and the family.
Standing With You is launching a LifeFunder page to help provide the family with the funds needed for medical expenses now and going forward. There are plenty of bills already stacking up and potentially more if the baby survives and faces further medical challenges due to the unusual circumstances of his birth.
We’re calling on our followers and people everywhere—whether they’re pro-life or not—to have compassion on the people affected by this tragic situation. We ask them to give what they can, whether it’s large or small. The family needs it.
This is what it means to support women and their babies, to come alongside them in their need. Not with words or rhetoric or politics. But with direct, humane, compassionate, action and sacrifice.

In addition to SFLA/SFLAction, PLG leads multiple initiatives to lead and serve the future of the pro-life movement including the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, Standing With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement. Over more than 17 years, PLG CEO Kristan Hawkins has grown the operation into a nearly $20M organization, now preparing for an abortion-free America.
