In an explosive development in the ongoing pushback against Chemical Abortion Pills, the head of the U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS), Robert Kennedy Jr., has ordered the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a “complete review” of the pills following new reports on their potential dangers.

Commenting on new data about adverse health events from taking Chemical Abortion Pills, Kennedy said “It’s alarming. . .Clearly, it indicates that, at the very least, the label should be changed.”

The data Kennedy referred to comes from the Ethics & Public Policy Center (EPPC), which released a pair of large-scale studies on the Chemical Abortion Pill mifepristone, finding that it is neither safe nor effective. According to the EPPC report, “Serious adverse events from mifepristone are approximately 22 times more frequent” than the FDA reports, meaning more than 1 in 10 patients will “experience at least one serious adverse event.”

“10.93 percent of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious or life-threatening adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion, far greater than the summary figure of ‘less than 0.5 percent’ in clinical trials reported on the drug label.”

Moreover, the second study found that at least 5.26% of women who attempted a first mifepristone abortion underwent a second attempt within 45 days due to the pill’s failure to work as advertised, based on insurance claims data.

Predictably, leftwing outlets such as The Guardian are attacking the report—even though Kennedy is simply calling for further research to potentially verify the EPPC’s findings. Perhaps they’re worried about what will come out when HHS does a thorough review of mifepristone’s safety?

Students for Life of America (SFLA) has been sounding the alarm on the dangers of Chemical Abortion Pills for some time, including pointing to a 500% increase in the Emergency Room (ER) visits for Chemical Abortion Pill-related complications. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) has been involved in legislative work to limit the use of Chemical Abortion Pills in several states in hopes of protecting preborn babies, the health of women, and the environment. Chemical Abortion Pill usage leads to chemically-tainted medical waste — human tissue, placenta, and blood — being flushed into U.S. water systems, negatively affecting the environment and general human health.

We’re praying that HHS’s involvement will finally rip away the veil that hides the ugliness and danger inherent in Chemical Abortion Pills for all to see—leading to their complete removal from the market.
