At a time when many areas are facing medical supply shortages and taxpayer dollars are being redirected to address the consequences of the coronavirus, we urge every governor to order abortion facilities closed in order to redirect medical personnel and supplies towards real healthcare,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA (3-23-2020)–

Today, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins called on the governor of every state to use their emergency powers to order abortion facilities shut down during the coronavirus crisis.

“Cities and states are ordering non-essential businesses to shut down and telling medical clinics and hospitals to prioritize coronavirus patients and emergency procedures. It makes no sense that Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities should remain open to commit abortions, as abortion is never essential. While millions of medical professionals across the country are scrambling to find necessary supplies, we urge every governor to order abortion facilities to cease abortions and to donate their taxpayer-funded,  necessary medical supplies to local hospitals and clinics that need it to provide real life-saving care.”

Students for Life of America is joining with other pro-life groups to urge governors to #StopTheSpread of coronavirus by closing abortion facilities and urging our network of students and supporters to use our Quorum page to contact their mayor and governor.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed executive orders on Sunday night that, “will expand hospital capacities by postponing all surgeries/ procedures not medically necessary and increase room availability by changing how many people can be treated in a room,” according to krgv.com.

The Attorney General of Ohio has also ordered abortion facilities to close in order to preserve necessary medical supplies.

In Illinois, six Planned Parenthood locations are already temporarily shutting down.
