Students for Life Action Praises Governor Greg Abbott’s Special Session Announcement to Protect Preborn Children; Calls on Texas State House & Senate to End Chemical Abortion Pill Pushing

SFLAction-inspired “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” to get a second chance, as a number of new measures advance

“We’re thankful that Governor Abbott prioritized legislation protecting preborn babies in his call for a special session. Now, the Texas State House and Senate need to finish the work on the ‘Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Bill,’ which has a new lease on LIFE,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Chemical Abortion Pill Pushers willfully break state laws to make a profit, exposing pregnant mother to injury, infertility, and death, empowering abusers, and risking the environment with abortion water pollution. Virtual Chemical Abortion Pill cartels need to be stopped.”

AUSTIN, TEXAS (07-17-2025) –  Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins praised Texas Governor Greg Abbott for calling a special session beginning Monday, July 21st, to address the crisis facing his state following the devastating floods, but to also specifically protect preborn Texans and their mothers from the abortion industry. Since June 16th, SFLAction has called for a special session to end the threat of Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking in Texas by finishing the work of the general session on SB 2880, the Women and Child Protection Act. The bill confronts Online, No-Test Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers, flooding Texas communities with these dangerous pills and acting illegally. It also allows civil action to be taken by those harmed by deadly Chemical Abortion Pills.

A number of new bills have been introduced to address a virtual Chemical Abortion Pill drug cartel, inspired in part by SFLAction’s engagement. During the General Session, the Women and Child Protection Act passed the Texas State Senate but was stalled in the Texas House State Affairs Committee when, after an 8 to 5 vote in favor of the bill, Rep. Ken King did not send it to the floor for a vote in time.

“Our call to the legislature is simple: bring the Women and Child Protection Act up for a vote,” said Hawkins. “It’s time to protect Life as an investment in Texas’ future, and we must make sure that women are protected from Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers.”

SFLAction has been very engaged in supporting the measure. Vice President for Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick testified in favor of the innovative approach to stopping an illegal Chemical Abortion Pill market.

In a joint letter with Texas Right to Life, along with a broader coalition letter signed by numerous pro-life organizations & lawmakers, SFLAction urged the Governor to prioritize the Women and Child Protection Act after the Chairman of the House State Affairs blocked this life-saving measure that protects mothers and preborn children.
