“It’s extraordinary that the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) through the Department of Justice wants to pause or dismiss cases underway because they don’t have their act together,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “During the Presidential campaign all the way to today, we’ve been very clear that a real review of Chemical Abortion Pills needs to take place and that it must include concerns over abortion water pollution. To ask a Court to delay or dismiss a case because they just didn’t get around to it yet represents a failure on the part of the administration. First, Missouri, and now Florida and Texas. Watch out Louisiana!”
WASHINGTON D.C. (03-13-2026) – Studentsfor Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins said that a second, Friday night data dump on a Chemical Abortion case “wasn’t subtle or secret. But it is just the kind of thing that discourages pro-life voters right before the midterm elections.” Hawkins made her remarks after news broke that in Florida et al v. FDA, the Trump Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) again asked for a case involving Chemical Abortion Pills to go away. Texas is engaged in the matter as well.
Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate was involved in this mistaken effort as well as one just a week ago in a Chemical Abortion case filed in Missouri. In both cases, the DOJ argues that there is a Chemical Abortion Pill FDA review underway (allegedly) and that the case can even be dismissed as people can sue later.
“The failure of the FDA to get their act together and complete a review doesn’t justify delaying or dropping any of the cases against them by states paying the prices for the neglect. Fast track the review and end the excuses,” said Hawkins.
