Adriana Smith is a nurse, a daughter, and a devoted mom. At just nine weeks pregnant, she suffered a devastating medical emergency, and even though she’s on life support and non-responsive, her baby’s heart is still beating—a life still growing inside the womb.
There’s new life and hope even in the midst of tragedy. Adriana’s son is a powerful reminder that even when the mother has been labeled “brain-dead,” a completely separate person still exists inside the womb—each heartbeat echoing the miracle of a child still growing, still holding onto life.
This pro-life law, the Living Infants and Equality Act, protects Life the moment a heartbeat is detected—usually around six weeks after conception.
While the pregnant Georgia mother was declared “brain-dead,” and has been hooked to life-sustaining machines for more than 90 days, it’s crucial to understand that “brain-dead” is simply a jargony term for a type of deep vegetative state that is assumed to be irreversible, but isn’t always—it is not actually death.
The Standing With You initiative of Students for Life of America (SFLA) makes sure that no woman stands alone. That’s why we are raising funds to help cover the medical costs for Adriana and her baby, and alleviate the financial pressures on her family.

This isn’t just about medical bills—it’s about standing up for the dignity and value of both lives involved.
While Adriana can no longer speak for herself, her son’s life still matters. Her doctors are doing the right thing by treating him as a unique patient. Right now, the baby boy is about 21 weeks old, and Adriana’s doctors want to give him just a little more time, until he’s fully grown to 32 weeks, before they safely deliver him via cesarean.

What’s happening? A pro-life law in Georgia is SAVING the Life of a dying mother’s child.
Adriana Smith is operating off of life support after suffering blood clots. Let’s be clear—there is nothing about the pro-life law in Georgia that… https://t.co/NrY4Yu93KK
Adriana’s unconscious state was not caused by the state’s pro-life law. Unfortunately, it appears to be a case of medical negligence.
She was reportedly given medication with no tests nor a CT scan after she went to the hospital with complaints of intense headaches. This should be a call for better women’s care—not more excuses to end innocent preborn life.
The financial costs of medical care for Adriana and her son are a burden they’re struggling to bear.
These doctors are doing exactly what any mother would want—giving her baby a fighting chance at life. Losing the mom is already tragic, but taking her child’s life won’t bring healing. It only adds more heartbreak for the mother and everyone who loves her. She and her family need compassionate aid—not activists and media voices pressuring her family towards violence.
Help us defend Adriana’s preborn baby and provide the support needed to protect his life by chipping in right away.
Your gift today will help cover the cost of life-sustaining medical care for Adriana’s baby, as well as support compassionate outreach and emergency aid during this heartbreaking situation.
In a moment when so many would walk away, you can choose to act. Your compassion and courage can sustain the life of a voiceless, little boy, and remind the world that every child—no matter how small or vulnerable—is worthy of love and protection.
We’ll keep you updated as Adriana’s story unfolds, and we invite you to keep praying for this precious baby and all those working to protect him and his mom.
Together, we are building a world where life is cherished and defended at every stage.
