In many corners of the country, abortion access is the status quo, but the Students for Life of America (SFLA) group, Rebels for Life, has steadily worked to change that in Nevada, their corner of America, earning them the title of SFLA’s March Group of the Month.

With this most recent 2024 election and the first cycle passing of Nevada’s Question 6, abortion seems to be an unchallenged threat in the state harboring Sin City. Question 6, mistaken for a law to protect the current abortion cut-off at 24 weeks gestation, acts an extreme ballot measure like Amendment 4 in Florida or CI 128 in Montana. If Question 6 is fully passed, it would allow abortion access in any cases that “preserve the health of the mother” and until “fetal viability.” However, the term “fetal viability” is vague and undefined by Nevada.

Though Question 6 did pass its first cycle with only one more election to go, the seeds of truth and sanctity for life did not go unplanted. Only a few months ago, the pro-life group at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) was inactive. However, SFLA revived the Rebels for Life at UNLV, bringing the Question 6 “abortion on the ballot” tour to the campus. But perhaps what sets SFLA’S Rebels for Life apart is how it attracts enrolled students and restless community members, too, ready to advocate for the preborn.

The tour stops at the University of Nevada Las Vegas quickly gained momentum, thanks to the power of Moms for Liberty—a group of moms sounding the alarms for Question 6. With half a dozen moms supporting the tour efforts at UNLV, word started to spread of not only the lies of Question 6 but also the comeback for the Rebels for Life.

Students from the Catholic Newman Center to Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and even more community members knew the importance of getting the truth out there about Question 6 before the abortion industry could twist the narrative. Some tour stops at UNLV yielded hundreds of conversations. Others sparked protests by left-leaning clubs tabling on campus near election season. Regardless, the fire was lit. Students who had never been involved in the pro-life movement before or only recently converted to the issue gave up their time to tour against Question 6.

“We are most certainly in a spiritual battle between good and evil, truth and lies, life and death. Nevada is truly a battleground state, not just politically, but also for the abortion issue,” said Michael Sontowski, president of Rebels for Life at UNLV. “We have so many amazing groups such as Moms for Liberty, First Choice Pregnancy Services, and many more on the frontlines fighting constantly for the sanctity of all human life and getting the truth out there to people of good will. I’m glad that Rebels for Life can help.”

And with this new semester, the joint forces of Rebels for Life and Moms for Liberty are stronger than ever. After just one training in February 2025, the group and its community partners are tabling against Chemical Abortion Pills. The pro-life movement in Las Vegas is also gearing up for the Pro-Life March on Saturday, March 29. The innovation and persistence of the Rebels for Life group is a testament to the age-old expression “when there’s a will there’s a way”.

Even if you need help from off-campus supporters. Even if the threat of abortion extremism looms over the state. There is work to be done, and Rebels for Life has excellently risen to the occasion so that Question 6 meets it end with the next election cycle in fall 2026.
