With More Pro-Life State Laws, Which States Are Stockpiling Chemical Abortion Pills?

Roe v. Wade’s demise in June 2022 was a long-fought battle for the Pro-Life Generation (PLG), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more daunting battles ahead. As states like Florida, Georgia, and Texas have tightened their abortion laws, prohibiting abortion after six weeks of pregnancy with exceptions for the life of the mother, and others like North Carolina prohibiting abortion at three months of pregnancy, abortion-supporting politicians and activists are willing to do whatever it takes to keep abortion accessible through Chemical Abortion Pills, despite the blatant dangers

Let’s be clear, though: there’s no such thing as a “safe” abortion. Abortion always puts a woman’s life at risk and is always meant to kill a preborn child in the womb, whether it’s by Chemical Abortion Pills or surgical abortion.

For a quick refresher, chemical abortion is a two-drug regimen that starts with mifepristone, which is used to block progesterone and starve the baby to death. Paired with misoprostol to expel the child from their mother’s womb, this deadly duo leaves physical and mental scars on the mother and results in a dead child.

With 63% of abortions taking place through pills, more than half of abortions, it’s clear that abortion activists’ idea of “accessibility to abortion” is abortion with no red tape, just like making driving “more accessible” by removing the driver’s license requirements, seatbelts, brakes, and doors. And nothing says “screw the red tape” by mailing Chemical Abortion Pills with often no prescription, no identity verification, and no proof of pregnancy.

This is nothing short of a black-market effort to obscure the soft safeguards put in place for these dangerous drugs, which cause infertility, physical and mental trauma, and even death.

When Texas’ abortion law went into effect in 2023, state officials and activists nationwide loudly proclaimed their dedication to abortion drug stockpiling, which includes the following states:

  • California has reportedly squirreled away two million misoprostol pills with 250,000 pills ready to sell, according to NPR in April 2023, which cost $100,000. The number is likely much higher now in 2024
  • Massachusetts claims to have enough Chemical Abortion Pills to last more than a year, according to AP. According to KFF, Massachusetts has self-reported over 20,000 abortions in their state in 2023 (Note: incomplete data because we have no National Abortion Reporting Law). So, it’s likely that the state has between 20,000-40,000 death-inducing pills.
  • New York, one of America’s abortion capitals, reportedly has 150,000 misoprostol pills, according to NPR.
  • Washington, which has 30,000 mifepristone pills, enough to kill babies up to three years, according to BBC.
  • Maryland has boasted of purchasing a “substantial amount” of pills, according to a Maryland press release.

These numbers are likely to be much higher in 2024. According to a March 24 Bloomberg report, Oregon and New Mexico are also among the states planning to stock mifepristone, while others have not revealed a plan to stock these drugs or simply haven’t.

However, even if a state hasn’t stocked up on Chemical Abortion Pills, that doesn’t mean that they can’t be easily accessed from somewhere else across the country or the globe. Many abortion activists are hiding their “covert” operations in plain sight by talking to the press about it.

After Roe v. Wade fell, the newest abortion strategy was to make Chemical Abortion Pills accessible regardless of whether or not the state had pro-life laws. As early as October 2022, The Washington Post publicly covered the covert illegal pill operation by a woman going by “Monica,” which is no longer covert. Fast forward to 2024, this baby-killing business is booming, with women finding it “much easier and more affordable” according to The Nation, which starts by talking about a woman named “Kay” doing a quick Google search online to find Chemical Abortion Pills.

So, while certain states are stockpiling pills like limited edition merch, there are abortion activists, whether it be “community members” or medical professionals, who are willing to put pills in women’s hands and send them on their way without supervision.

At the end of the day, whether it’s abortion activists or state officials doing it, their stockpile of pills has and will continue to turn into a pile of dead preborn children. This isn’t the end, though, as Students for Life of America (SFLA) has and will continue to fight these deadly drugs.
