SFLA & Partners Launch to Confront Gaslighting of Pregnant Women Worried About Their Lives

Kristi Hamrick - 29 Jun 2023

“As organizations dedicated to helping mothers daily as they navigate pregnancy, we know women are worried that they’re at risk in a Post-Roe America. It’s what a predatory abortion enterprise and their media allies say daily,” said Student for Life of America’s (SFLA) Kristan Hawkins. “But real help is available. is a place where women can come for some answers and direction as abortion industry gaslighting scares many.”

“Women deserve answers in their pregnancy decision-making, not directives. Hearing a friendly voice who can help them understand the terms and the potential helps make a truly informed decision,” Jor-El Godsey, President, Heartbeat International.

In a life-threatening situation, please dial 911. For information on at risk pregnancies and the help that is available, visit:

WASHINGTON D.C. (06-29-2023) – In the first days following the fall of the injustice of Roe v. Wade that penciled “abortion” into the U.S. Constitution in 1973, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins flagged that pregnant mothers could be at risk, as abortion supporters worked tirelessly to create a false narrative for the “need” for legal abortion to save mothers’ lives, perhaps by slow walking medical care to prove their point. Since then, countless stories have pushed the idea that physicians no longer know how to do their jobs. “It’s astounding to see amnesia take place among abortion-supporting ‘professionals’ who suddenly don’t know how to help pregnant mothers,” said Hawkins. “To help women get better answers than ‘get an abortion,’ Students for Life of America, at our Standing with You Initiative, along with Heartbeat International, have launched, where better solutions then killing a baby are offered when an emergency is underway. This does not replace 911 in a crisis, but for mothers told that they can’t be treated for ectopic pregnancy, for example, it’s a great place to get medical facts, not pro-abortion spin.”

At Pregnancy Emergencies, such as ectopic pregnancies or other prenatal diagnoses, can be scary.  Every mother deserves to be empowered with options that provide care and dignity for her and her baby without the fear too often caused by media reports that help will not be made available. The fact is there are many medical professionals on standby, right now, who are willing to assist mothers facing troubling information. You are not alone.

Writing for POLITICO, Hawkins described the manufactured chaos over medical “confusion” her greatest surprise, Post-Roe, observing:

What surprised me was the mainstream media’s willingness to act as if America can’t read or remember basic medical facts, as gaslighting became news. For example, an elective abortion isn’t used to address the life-threatening condition of an ectopic pregnancy. But Planned Parenthood changed their website, and the media erased their memory. Nationwide, pro-life laws specifically say that mothers are not to be prosecuted and that protecting the life of a mother at risk is supported but you wouldn’t know that by the headlines. Even that critical milestone of hearing a child’s heartbeat was suddenly confusing, as though the universal sign of life was a mystery rather than a joyful sound for mothers in doctors’ offices around the country every day.

“And then there were all the stories trying to convince frightened women that life-threatening events would be ignored in some states. So great is Students for Life’s concern that we set up, reminding mothers that they can make a call for a second opinion at any time that they become worried. We fear the medical abandonment that women tell reporters they are experiencing will leave some alone in a moment of crisis.”

For more than 10 years, Students for Life of America’s Standing with You initiative has linked mothers with resources as the local, state, and federal levels, providing timely information on things from food stamps and housing help to Save Haven Laws

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,400 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
