GUEST POST: Last Saturday was the official launch of the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities in Glendale, Arizona, and I am so incredibly encouraged by what I saw during our launch event. After praying together at the local Planned Parenthood, my group and I went out into the community and spoke with almost 50 people, and 90 percent of them were pro-life—we couldn’t believe it!
Most of the Glendale residents that we spoke with wanted to get involved in caring for pregnant and parenting women and help spread information about Students for Life of America’s Standing With You initiative as well as the local pregnancy help organizations in the area. Many people also already knew about Choices Glendale, a nearby pregnancy care center, and I even met a pro-life family that had used their life-affirming services during pregnancies in the past.
I ended up speaking with only one person who openly admitted to being pro-abortion, and even she knew about Choices Glendale. However, she wasn’t aware of the local Planned Parenthood, and she also admitted after our discussion that she had never researched life in the womb. She was distressed when I mentioned that although fetal pain begins at 12 weeks, Arizona law still allows abortions up to 24 weeks. After our discussion, she thanked me for what I was doing and said she would pass along the information if she met anyone in need of resources.
I’m so glad that we are focusing on the Glendale area in Arizona with the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities. Obviously, there is already great support for life in this community, and I feel confident that with help and dedication, we can turn Glendale into a sanctuary city where the preborn are fully protected from abortion and all women and families know where to turn for support.
