The theme of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign was rebuilding unity, but if the Catholic community is any indication, that goal may not come to fruition. Though the fate of the Presidential election remains uncertain, the USCCB (U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops) is commencing conversations about the challenges Joe Biden poses as an abortion-supporting Catholic.

Pope Francis called to congratulate Joe Biden after his apparent victory… whilst the USCCB met with massive concerns about the blasphemy of Biden’s supposed Catholicism coupled with his support for abortion through all nine months, for any reason, and taxpayer-funded. The division is strong – and it goes all the way from the pope down to the average Catholic. Shockingly, Catholics voted nearly 50/50 Trump-Biden.
Plenty of public figures are disappointed that the USCCB are discussing Biden’s abortion stance (for some reason). Natalia Imperatori-Lee, a professor of religious studies at Manhattan College, wrote in an email, “It seems they’d like to start an antagonistic relationship with only the second Catholic to be elected the president of this country. This is appalling.” The other, of course, is JFK, who got off easy on the abortion issue as it was not in the public light during his time.
So, it’s not appalling that Biden supports birthday abortions and infanticide. But it is appalling that a group of Catholic Bishops are critical of the world’s most prominent Catholic fully contradicting church teaching? It’s a backwards time. Just because he claims to be a Catholic doesn’t mean that every Catholic in America has to bend over backwards in support for him. A vote is not a valentine, and actions speak louder than words.
Regardless of the church’s eventual decision about Joe Biden (assuming he is inaugurated) and whether he’s excommunicated, denied communion, or given a hall pass… the Pro-Life Generation will continue advocating for preborn life. It doesn’t matter who’s in office or what he/she claims their religion to be. The preborn are still losing their lives to the tune of millions, and we’ll be here until every human being is equally valued.
