“It’s almost cliché in pro-life circles that on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade for coming close to 50 years, hundreds of thousands of people National Pro-Life March, and almost no one in the media can see them,” said SFLA’s Kristan Hawkins. “Like Pro-Life Ninjas, they move in and out of the nation’s capital undetected, until a teenager with a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat was spotted next to a professional protestor attempting to cause a media moment. I’m just glad to see that some justice was served for Nick in his suit against CNN.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (01-07-20) – Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins said that news CNN has reportedly settled with Covington Catholic High School Nick Sandmann who was ridiculed and falsely accused of disrespecting indigenous people following the National Pro-Life March should be a “wake up call for reporters who don’t respect student free speech.”

She made the following comments: “It was a travesty when students like Nick and his friends who had come to the nation’s capital to express their support for mothers and the pre-born babies were mocked around the world through media channels when they were set up through selective editing. Rather than trying to learn more about how the pro-life students came in contact with agitators, the media rushed to judgment to put them in a bad light. They learned a painful lesson that we know at Students for Life, it’s hard to stand up for the weak and helpless in a hostile culture, and we need to stand strong for the least of these in the face of growing obstacles.

“Pro-life students are celebrating today following news that CNN is settling the case Nick filed after they violated every journalistic principle so that he and other pro-life students would look bad. Peaceful pro-life speech should be respected and fairly reported.

“As I’ve said before, it’s almost cliché in pro-life circles that on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade for coming close to 50 years, hundreds of thousands of people National Pro-Life March, and almost no one in the media can see them. Like Pro-Life Ninjas, they move in and out of the nation’s capital undetected, until a teenager with a “Make America Great Again” hat was spotted next to a professional protestor attempting to cause a media moment. I’m just glad to see that some justice was served for Nick in his suit against CNN.”

Following their mistreatment at the hands of the media, the students from Covington Catholic launched a  GoFundMe campaign, raising $50,000 for the work of Students for Life, to help other students speak up for life. And they have continued to have a voice for the voiceless.
