Zuheidy Neri, one of the National Leaders Collective’s (NLC) leaders of the month, is a Students for Life of America (SFLA) Standing With You (SWY) Fellow attending Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) in Texas. Learn more about Neri’s activism below.

Every human life has value, and I want to create a culture that supports women and families in choosing life. The pro-life movement does precisely that. Living in a border town like Laredo, I see firsthand the unique challenges many women face, and I want to ensure they have real resources and support.

As part of the Standing With You fellowship, I’ve become equipped as a pro-life leader with the tools to advocate effectively for life in our communities. I applied because I want to expand my ability to make a tangible impact, especially by working toward establishing a Safe Haven Baby Box in Laredo, Texas.

My growth as a leader has been incredible so far. I’ve organized campus initiatives, collaborated with different groups, and took on greater responsibilities in the movement. From leading a pamper drive at TAMIU to assisting at Pregnancy Help Center (PHC) events, I’ve learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and perseverance. My partnership with the Catholic group on campus has also strengthened my ability to unite diverse communities for a common cause.

In 2024, my top three pro-life accomplishments of 2024 were:

  • Hosting a Pamper Drive at TAMIU. My group and I organized a campus-wide donation drive to give mothers essential baby supplies.
  • Collaborating with PHCs and campus groups. We assisted at local PHC events and partnered with the Catholic group to spread awareness and support for life.
  • Laying the groundwork for a Safe Haven Baby Box in Laredo. This has helped us to advocate for a life-saving initiative to provide mothers in crisis with a safe, anonymous option for their newborns.

Being part of the pro-life movement at TAMIU has shown me the power of community in changing hearts and saving lives. I am excited to further our efforts this year by advocating for a Safe Haven Baby Box in Laredo to provide real, life-affirming solutions for mothers in crisis.
