Few people would expect a student with a background in marine studies to end up recruiting and training the next generation of conservative leaders, but that is exactly where my journey led me.
I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in May 2024 with a B.S. in Marine Science. While studying the ocean and environmental sciences, I also discovered instead a passion for defending preborn children and advocating for policies that uphold human dignity.
My involvement with Students for Life of America (SFLA) began when a friend started a pro-life group on campus that partnered with SFLA. As I became more active in the group, I was introduced to opportunities that challenged me to grow as a leader and think more seriously about how I could make a long-term impact.
One of the most significant experiences during my time as a student was participating in SFLA’s National Leaders Collective. The training, mentorship, and hands-on opportunities I received helped me develop the skills needed to pursue a career in conservative politics and public advocacy. Today, I serve as the State Recruiter for Minnesota and the Dakotas with the Leadership Institute.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work has been helping establish Students for Life groups on campuses throughout my region, including at Winona State University. I have also had the opportunity to host influential pro-life speakers, including Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins and Live Action Outreach Leader Avanelle Mitchell.
Outside of my professional work, I remain involved in the movement through volunteer efforts with pro-life organizations such as Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life. Staying connected to grassroots activism reminds me that meaningful change happens when ordinary people are willing to step forward and take action.
For students who are interested in a career in the pro-life movement, my advice is simple: don’t let opposition discourage you. Standing for Life on campus can come with challenges, but those experiences often prepare you for future leadership opportunities.
I would also encourage students to invest time in building relationships with pro-life leaders and organizations. Many of the opportunities I’ve had came because experienced leaders were willing to offer guidance, mentorship, and encouragement. Those connections can open doors you never expected.
