The Pro-life Generation (PLG) praised and expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for releasing the peaceful pro-life political prisoners who were wrongly convicted for prayers and singing near abortion businesses, but to Make America Pro-Life Again, our President needs to repeal the Clinton-era Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. No matter the media spin, it’s a weapon used almost exclusively against pro-life Americans. 

As we’ve written before:  “The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act makes it a federal crime to use force, threat of force, or physical obstruction to prevent women from obtaining ‘reproductive health services,’ which include abortions. It also prohibits damaging or destroying a reproductive health services facility.  It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1994, and it’s still being enforced today.”  

Under the Biden-Harris Administration, peacefully praying near an abortion vendor operation resulted in federal prison time, while Pregnancy Help Centers were vandalized, set on fire, and disrupted with hardly an eyebrow raised.  

The law is supposed to protect ANY location engaged on issues of reproduction – allegedly for it and against. But that hasn’t been the case.  

President Trump has pledged to cut down on that weaponized use of a law passed specifically with pro-life Americans in mind. According to the Washington Post, the Department of Justice (DOJ) shared they will only enforce the FACE Act in  “extraordinary circumstances.” The pro-life movement wants more than a “watchful eye” on the FACE Act from a friendly administration; we want it gone completely because of the risk it poses in the future should another radical, pro-abortion activist administration take charge.  

The abortion industry claims to be “scared” of an era of “anti-abortion violence” when the FACE Act was putting old ladies in jail for praying outside of abortion facilities. Of course that doesn’t make any sense. Why would they be threatened by old ladies, Holocaust survivors, and peaceful pro-lifers praying outside of abortion facilities? 

Some Republican offices have expressed concerns about completely doing away with the FACE Act because of concerns for attacks on pro-life locations, such as Pregnancy Help Centers (PHC) and churches. However, strong state laws already protect them from attack and destructive behavior. And frankly, ignore attacks on pro-lifers was the reality. 

On top of that, the FACE Act has been astronomically proven to be more dangerous for us than good. It is well documented how much peaceful pro-lifers have been weaponized against, while there have been very few prosecutions for all the destruction done to PHCs and churches.  

A pattern of legal oppression against pro-life Americans emerged during the Biden-Harris Administration. As Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins wrote for Newsweek:  

“Threats and acts of violence against pro-life activists are becoming increasingly common. Students for Life students and team members have endured everything from physical attacks and arson to bomb threats and intimidation, making security issues a vital concern and expense for pro-life events. When Justice Brett Kavanaugh—who was seen as a possible pro-life vote—was confirmed to the Supreme Court, protestors stormed the Court, banging on the doors. Outside the U.S., violent protests broke out in Poland and Latin America when those countries contemplated pro-life policies. Antifa has protested my own speaking tours …  Some abortion supporters are pairing their advocacy for the violence of abortion with violent acts, which have a definite chilling effect on public discourse that must be overcome.” 

But addressing those issues has been a one-way street, moving in favor of those who love abortion. The truth is, the FACE Act in hands of an abortion-loving administration was used against Pro-Life Americans while ignoring attacks against Pro-Life service center.  

The issues with the FACE Act represent a problem we MUST fix during the Trump Administration. It’s time to repeal the FACE Act.

SFLAction and the Pro-Life Generation will continue to relentlessly call on President Trump and Congress to completely repeal the FACE Act.
