When I was 14, I felt called to be in the pro-life movement, and even more so when I discovered the violent and tragic truth about abortion. Realizing there weren’t many local pro-life resources for teens and young adults near me, I knew I wanted to do something to change that.
Shortly after, in 2022, a Students for Life of America (SFLA) speaker talked at one of our local crisis pregnancy center’s hotline meetings, and that same day, we discussed getting all the groundwork to get my SFLA group going. Two months after our talk, in my freshman year of high school, my SFLA group held its first meeting, and our group has been growing ever since, reaching 15 active members. I have continued my leadership journey by applying for the Thaddeus Stevens scholarship and joining the National Leaders Collective.
My SFLA group attended the Indiana State March for Life, bringing 10 students and three adult chaperones. We also worked with our local crisis pregnancy hotline to host a baby shower for a local mom in need. We held it for a mom who had adopted a premature baby who was abandoned in the NICU, born addicted to drugs and alcohol. The mom’s oldest child was already in college, so she had nothing to raise a baby. Some of the donations included a full crib, mattress, sheets, bedding, diapers, wipes, toys, board books, and several bags of clothes! The mom didn’t come to the shower, but we played a few games and had drinks and snacks available, dropping off all the items later in the week.
We are currently on track to taking our largest group to the National Pro-Life March and Pro-Life Summit in January of 2025, with 20 students and five adult chaperones and counting.
Every life deserves a chance, no matter what the situation or circumstances. SFLA opened my eyes to the vulnerable situations pregnant women are in that cause them to think they need an abortion. Or, even worse, they’re coerced or lied into getting one. Working with Students for Life of America has inspired me to be the change and lead other young people to do the same. Having the guidance and resources gives me the confidence to share the truth with my peers and help all moms in need.
