Reported on behalf of Students for Life Action
“According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, 54% of women who undergo abortions are Christian,” said Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life and Students for Life Action.“Church leaders have the moral obligation to convey the gravity of abortion and hold public figures who claim to be Christian accountable to the faith they profess. Christians are rising up to call for President Biden to be held accountable by his Catholic Church leaders.”
WASHINGTON D.C. (06-15-2021) – Ahead of this week’s gathering of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins announced SEVEN rallies Wednesday across the country, in locations where American Catholic Bishops lead the church, calling on them to stand firm and fight for faith as they consider the impact of Catholics who claim to be faithful but reject church teaching with their policies and rhetoric. The Bishops are to meet starting Wednesday to discuss the disconnect between church teachings and those who claim to be faithful followers, asking what to do about Communion being given to pro-abortion politicians whose political agendas undermine and oppose Church teaching on the preborn.
But this isn’t just a Catholic problem. Hawkins, a Catholic convert, joined with Kristi Hamrick, a Protestant and SFLA/SFLAction Chief Media & Policy Strategist, in an op-ed set for Tuesday in the Washington Times, discussing why this matters.
They wrote: “Working every day with women considering abortion, we’ve seen firsthand the conflicts it causes when people can’t look to the leaders of their church for clear guidance on spiritual principles. When any church fails to lead on the moral issues of our day, other voices become loud and drown out the still, small voice of conscience.
“The pretense that ending preborn life is negotiable creates chaos and confusion and must not stand unchallenged by people of faith or their leaders.”
At StudentsForLife.org/Faith, those who cannot attend the rallies in person are invited to participate in the campaign by sending a personal email to Archbishop Jose Gomez, current president of the USCCB, and printing tithing slips to leave in their church collection baskets sharing their concerns with their pastors.
