In a new episode of Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) sponsored podcast Speak Out, host Christine Yeargin sat down with NBA player Jonathan Isaac to discuss standing firm in his Christian values despite culture’s pressure not to abandon them. While Isaac has worked hard for a successful NBA career, he made it into the public spotlight as the lone NBA player who refused to wear a Black Lives Matter T-shirt following George Floyd’s death and chose to stand for the National Anthem despite his entire team kneeling.

Knowing the risk of pushback and losing his NBA career, Isaac shared that his decision to stand came from his faith, desire for unity, and now, his stance on life.

“And one of my teammates is like, Jonathan, what are you going to do?” Isaac told Yeargin. “And I said, ‘fellas, I’m not going to kneel, and I’m not going to wear the T-shirt.’”

When his teammates asked him why, he said, “I am in no position to point fingers. It’s not that I don’t believe that what happened was wrong. I see the problem. I just believe that there is a greater solution than adding to the division by kneeling for the national anthem or cosigning an organization like the Black Lives Matter organization that I just disagreed with fundamentally. And so, I decided I’m going to take this moment to not, you know, go with that solution, but to use my own, which is to share the gospel and the love of Christ.”

No stranger to swimming upstream of mainstream culture, Isaac has become even bolder, being outspoken on his stance on life and the value of the preborn. Isaac opened up about why he now values life and stands against abortion.

“A few years ago, it wouldn’t have been an issue for me,” Isaac explained. “It wasn’t an issue for me. Just being transparent, when I was in high school, I bought a plan B for a girl, you know, because of a situation that I was in, and my mind has been renewed because of Christ at the end of the day. And I now have a formed understanding that life comes from God, and we do not have the authority or should have the authority to take that life. Regardless of what color you are, regardless of what background you are.”

Since 2020, Jonathan Isaac has started his own clothing brand called “Unitus,” which is meant for athletes (and others) to wear their Christian values instead of supporting brands that oppose Christian beliefs.
During the interview, he hinted at an upcoming pro-life shoe.

So, take a listen and stay tuned for his newest apparel drops.
