Louisiana resident Jamelle Kelly has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly dosing a pregnant woman with Chemical Abortion Pills against her will.
As a result of the pills, the woman was admitted to the hospital, where she underwent an emergency C-section at just 23 weeks.
Miraculously, the baby was born alive despite weighing just a pound and is currently in the hospital. Meanwhile, Kelly faces charges of attempted first-degree feticide and domestic abuse of a pregnant victim while police continue to investigate the case.
Unfortunately, cases like this aren’t uncommon. In 2021, the Biden administration permanently removed longstanding safety protocols that required doctors to dispense Chemical Abortion Pills to women in person. In its place, they established telemedicine abortion and abortion-by-mail — practices that mean doctors may never even see the person they’re prescribing pills to.

Not only does that put women at increased risk, but it also makes it easy for those who aren’t even pregnant to access the deadly pills, making them the perfect tool for abusers and others who want to hide their wrongdoing.
In a report released earlier this year, The Heritage Foundation documented at least 13 cases of abusers forcing women to take abortion pills against their will since the removal of the in-person dispensing requirement. And those are just the publicly documented incidents that have actually been prosecuted in court. The real number is likely much, much higher.
Cases like Kelly’s are a reminder of the danger of pro-abortion policies that put Chemical Abortion Pills in the hands of abusers. Until the government acts to stop this from happening, women and children will not be safe.
