The Abortion Lobby’s Desperate Attempt to Kill: Pilot Program Could Force Pharmacists to Prescribe Chemical Abortion Pills

Looks like the abortion lobby wants to empower more people to end preborn life.

According to a recent New York Times article, a pilot program out of Washington State is underway to allow pharmacists also to prescribe Chemical Abortion Pills. The original REMS (health and safety standards) from 2000 would have demanded in-person care with a physician. Still, the current REMS gives abortion businesses more latitude to expand death by pills as we enter a Donald Trump presidency.

“Pharmacists are regulated by states, so their ability to prescribe specific medications cannot be blocked by the federal government,” reported The New York Times. “But if the incoming Trump administration wanted to stop pharmacists from prescribing abortion pills, it could try to reinstate Food and Drug Administration regulations that required that only doctors prescribe mifepristone, the first pill in the two-drug medication abortion regimen.”

One thing is clear: death is the abortion lobby’s intention, and their interest in expanding the number of people risking women’s lives and ending the lives of babies in the womb knows no limits. That’s why there are significant benefits to returning to the limits of 2000 REMS, which were recently changed in 2023. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, “The FDA has permanently removed the in-person dispensing requirement and added a new pharmacy certification process, which will enable retail pharmacies that meet certain qualifications to dispense mifepristone directly to patients who have a prescription from a certified prescriber.”

While the Pro-Life Generation (PLG) doesn’t embrace abortion at any stage of pregnancy or for any reason and believes in personhood at conception, a return to the 2000 version of REMS would mess with the abortion industry’s extreme plans.

While you may have gotten a flu shot in your local pharmacy, that’s not the place people go for diagnosis and treatment as a general rule. Pharmacists prescribe very few medications so this extreme jump to allow them to prescribe life-ending and life-threatening pills to women indicates a reckless disregard for safety in medicine, all for the sake of selling preborn death. Pharmacists should be horrified to learn this “death test” could co-opt their businesses into the abortion network.

And sadly, obviously, complications will arise.

Without proper screening for blood type or by ultrasound, women’s lives and future fertility are at risk, increasing the risk of ectopic pregnancies and pre-term births.

Without in-person verification, abusers can get Chemical Abortion Pills to use against women without their knowledge or consent, evading responsibility for their despicable actions. Last year, a man laced his wife’s drink with Chemical Abortion Pills. How many more abusers using pills are out there? And are pharmacists truly prepared to deal with that?

And, without proper oversight, horrific accidents may occur. Consider the case out of Nevada where a woman was accidentally given life-ending pills instead of her prescription, killing her preborn twins.

All those problems are apparent before we get to the elephant in the room – the conscience rights of future pharmacists who are working to distribute life-affirming care and instead may be forced to end precious lives deliberately.

This is a terrible idea that benefits only the industry profiting from pill pushing. Women’s lives and future fertility are compromised, preborn infants’ lives are ended, and abusers are empowered.

However, Students for Life of America (SFLA) has never stood idly by. We have had a long-term pharmacy program to protect pharmacists’ conscience rights and the lives of women and children in the womb.

But it could still get worse.

Off the heels of the media’s attempt to mislabel miscarriage as abortion to swing voters in the 2024 election, rumors that pills designed to end pre-born life may be relabeled as “miscarriage care.” There is no common-sense reason to give a deadly drug that starves a living child to a mother whose child’s life has tragically ended.

But one reason for this cruel fabrication is to force pro-life states to stock the pills, which SFLA has filed a citizen’s petition to the FDA to block.

Now is not the time for the pro-life movement or any life-minded American citizen to take a load off. As we enter into a new cultural era, the fight has only just begun, and it’s not just in front of abortion facilities: it’s at your local Costco and Walmart, online pill pushers, and potentially local pharmacies. And Students for Life of America (SFLA) is ready.
