For young Christian women, conversations about marriage, motherhood, and careers can sometimes make it sound as though choosing one necessarily means rejecting another. 

But Scripture paints a more complete picture of a woman’s vocation. 

In a new op-ed at the Daily Wire, Students for Life of America’s Olivia D’Angelo challenges a growing conversation on the political Right about women, work, and the biblical model of the Proverbs 31 woman. Her message to Gen Z Christians is straightforward: it is biblical for women to work. 

D’Angelo opens with the news that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position to spend more time with her young children, a decision President Donald Trump publicly said he understood and respected. 

Leavitt’s decision offers an important reminder that prioritizing motherhood and family should be celebrated. But it also raises a broader question for Christian women: Does valuing marriage and motherhood require rejecting work outside the home? 

D’Angelo argues that the answer is no. The biblical vision of womanhood should not be reduced to a modern political argument that forces women into an either-or choice between family and meaningful work. As the Daily Wire op-ed’s subtitle puts it, the debate is ultimately about “what the political Right gets wrong about the Proverbs 31 woman.” 

For a generation of young Christian women trying to navigate faith, family, motherhood, and their professional lives, it’s a conversation worth having.
