5 Lies Planned Parenthood Sells

What Big Abortion Doesn’t Want You to Know

Planned Parenthood paints itself as a bastion of the local community — an organization dedicated to providing affordable, quality health care to women and underserved minorities.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only do Planned Parenthood sites often suffer from abysmal conditions, but Planned Parenthood itself often provides misleading or deceptive information to downplay the risks of abortion (typically, without citing a single source to support its claims).

Here are five common lies Planned Parenthood tells — pulled directly from the national organization’s website.

Lie 1: Chemical Abortion Is Safe and Easy

Studies show that drug-induced abortion has a complication rate four times higher than that of surgical abortion, with as many as 1 in 5 women suffering complications from chemical abortion. As many as 15% experience hemorrhaging, and 2% suffer infections. And for every 20 chemical abortions, one woman visits the ER thanks to her abortion.

Lie 2: Abortion doesn’t affect your mental health

Multiple studies show links between abortion and mental illness, depression, and suicidality. One meta-analysis found that women who had abortions had a 59% greater risk of mental health problems than women who had not had abortions. A 2025 study found that even accounting for prior risk factors, women who had abortions had 81% greater risk of psychiatric hospitalization, 157% greater risk of substance abuse hospitalization, and 116% greater risk of hospitalization for attempting suicide. Multiple studies found that women who have abortions have suicide rates between 2-6 times those of women who give birth.

Lie 3: Having an abortion won’t affect your chances of getting pregnant in the future

Patients who undergo surgical abortions experience significantly higher rates of medical complications such as Asherman syndrome (a condition in which scar tissue forms inside the uterus), which can result in repeated miscarriage and complications like low birth weight. The risk of developing conditions like Asherman increases for women who have more than one abortion.

Studies also show that women who have abortions have significantly higher rates of pre-term birth; pre-term birth poses serious consequences for babies, resulting in over 3 million deaths worldwide annually. Women who have surgical abortions are at least three times more likely to suffer chorioamnionitis (a serious infection) in future pregnancies than are women who had live births.

Lie 4: Planned Parenthood clinics offer valuable resources and high-quality treatment

[from https://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/who-we-are

In a stunning report early last year, the New York Times revealed a litany of serious issues at Planned Parenthoods across the country — including management instructing staff to limit appointments to just 10 minutes. Planned Parenthood employees reported not being properly trained to draw blood or even conduct patient intake, and facilities reported running out of basic over-the-counter pain medications. At one affiliate, nurses neglected to upload STI results for months — leading clients to falsely believe they had tested negative. A woman who received an IUD was told it “would be rough, and just ride it out.” She went on to experience bleeding for months until another doctor found that Planned Parenthood had botched the procedure.

Lie 5: Crisis pregnancy centers can’t be trusted to offer quality information or care

[from: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/abortion/considering-abortion

In 2024, pregnancy resource centers — so-called crisis pregnancy centers — performed 700,268 pregnancy tests, 636,514 ultrasounds, and 239,948 STD tests, serving a total of over 1 million new clients. Pregnancy resource centers also handed out over $116,063,066 in material aid such as diapers, strollers, clothes, and formula, and offered post-abortion support or classes on birth/parenting to 421,979 patients. That’s a far cry from Planned Parenthood’s 10-minute appointments and lack of material resources.

Bonus: Other lies the abortion industry tells

Lie: Among the most common reasons for abortion are rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother.

Truth: According to data from 8 states (the only ones requiring reporting on reason for abortion), just 0.4% of abortions were because of rape or incest. Only 0.3% were due to risk to the mother’s life or bodily function.

Lie: Abortion pill reversal doesn’t work.

Truth: A 2018 study found that 66% of mothers who used abortion pill reversal had continuing pregnancies.

Lie: Babies don’t survive abortions.

Truth: A 2024 study of 13,777 abortions between 15 and 29 weeks found that over 11% of babies were born alive

Conclusion

According to Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report, the abortion vendor logged over $2 billion in income and $2.5 billion in net assets. The alleged nonprofit made a full $27 million after expenses — on top of the $178.6 million in excess it made the year prior.

Planned Parenthood isn’t a health care provider, it’s a business. Its mission isn’t to provide the best possible care for women and babies — it’s to grow its bottom line, even if that means sharing deceptive, false, and harmful information.

Planned Parenthood’s greatest feat? Tricking millions of women into believing abortion is a get-out-of-jail-free card that comes with no consequences or risks for physical, emotional, or spiritual wellbeing.

An organization like that doesn’t deserve to exist — and it certainly doesn’t deserve a single cent of taxpayer money.
