Walmart Showdown During “Stop Pharmacy Abortions” Event: Peaceful Pro-Life Students vs. One Very Angry Shopper

You know what they say: if something wild is going to happen, it’ll probably happen at Walmart

Add a few passionate pro-lifers to the mix, and you’ve got the recipe for a mostly peaceful showdown (peaceful on our end, of course).

This week, Students for Life of America (SFLA) turned up the volume with our nationwide “Stop Pharmacy Abortions” protests—an urgent response to the deregulations of the abortion marketplace by the former Biden Administration. With over 80 events across 35 states, our message has been loud and clear: we’re calling on pharmacies to move beyond quiet compliance and say NO to selling Chemical Abortion Pills in our communities.

One of those events took place outside of a Walmart in Mesa, Colorado. During a peaceful protest on the public sidewalk outside of the mega supermarket, SFLA students advocating against the sale of Chemical Abortion Pills, which included asking Walmart and other stores to commit to not selling them, were confronted by an aggressive passerby. The woman, initially driving past the group, shouted “My body, my choice!” before parking and approaching our students.

Witnesses say the woman immediately became hostile, directing pointed and personal questions at two female students, including asking if they had ever been raped. When one of the women disclosed she had been sexually assaulted, the woman pressed further, demanding to know whether she would keep a baby conceived from rape. Upon hearing that she would, the woman shouted, “That would be your choice!” and refused to participate in further dialogue.

The situation escalated as the woman began yelling over the group, using profanity, and verbally attacking the male members. She then physically ripped signs from the hands of several protesters, striking one student’s hand and arm in the process. A member of the group attempted to record the incident, though the video begins slightly after the initial physical contact due to a delay in starting the recording.

The group remained calm, collected, peaceful, and soon after, a Walmart security personnel member intervened to help de-escalate the confrontation. The woman eventually left the scene but returned about an hour later carrying handwritten papers with Bible verses taken out of context. Upon her return, the group warned that any further aggression would result in a police call. She handed the papers to one of the male members, cursed at the group again, and departed.

While it was clear this woman was deeply affected by past trauma, no innocent preborn child should bear the consequences of another’s wrongdoing. No store that claims to be family-friendly should be selling dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills that not only end lives, but risk alienating the very communities they serve.

SFLA remains steadfast, continuing to ramp up pressure on grocery chains to reject Chemical Abortion Pills. The goal is clear: we’re calling on these companies to publicly disavow the pills and make a bold, lasting commitment never to sell them in our communities.
