“On campuses across America, the Pro-Life Generation uses our free speech rights, whether administrations like it or not,” said Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins. “While the Pro-Life Generation has a better friend in the Trump administration, we’re not letting our guard down. If anything, our willingness to fight for preborn babies, their mothers, and our freedom has grown even stronger. The results speak for themselves – as our presence grows, pro-life solutions and optimism replace pro-abortion propaganda and despair.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-13-2025) – Even in the face of free speech crackdowns, campus vandalisms, and harassment, Students for Life of America (SFLA) continues to stand strong and expand during the 2024-2025 school year. “Free speech rights don’t really exist if students are afraid to use them. So, our team works school-by-school to build up the next generation of bold pro-life leadership. We are the talent pipeline for the future of pro-life political and cultural engagement, and our expansion plans are changing campus life and the pro-life movement across the country,” said Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins.

SFLA reports an impressive nearly 50% campus presence nationwide and 1,575 active student groups—active on 57% of public colleges and universities, as well as 42% of private and Christian colleges and universities. And with 55 free speech challenges this school year, including censorship, vandalism, and administrative restrictions, this milestone demonstrates the Pro-Life Generation’s (PLG) resilience and determination no matter the obstacle.

“The Pro-Life Generation exhibits grit, stands for Life, and handles infringement on our free speech with strength and determination,” said Hawkins. “With 230,000 trained students and a presence on nearly 50% of four-year college and university campuses, we see that when we fight for our God-given free speech rights, we also experience undeniable growth.”

Amidst a string of violence and vandalism this school year, SFLA stood firm. A few examples:

  • A student at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) vandalized a Cemetery of the Innocents display, which represented the 1,076 preborn lives taken by Planned Parenthood each day.
  • Abortion extremists and Antifa mobbed SFLA’s Lydia Taylor Davis during her “Abortion is Violence” fall tour, also at VCU.
  • Abortion zealots also mobbed Davis at the Florida Pro-Life March a few months later.

SFLA also went viral when a male harasser and University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNC-Asheville) student, Adrian Miguelez, swore at our students and vandalized an SFLA-affiliated “Think Before You Drink” tour table, exposing how Chemical Abortion Pills taint our waterways.

Hawkins and her team also experienced setbacks during the “Make Abortion Illegal Again” campus tour, facing administrative hurdles at multiple universities, including last-minute filming restrictions and inadequate venue allocations.

Even with the hostility, Hawkins still changed minds and hearts for preborn babies, while SFLA achieved notable victories nationwide. One powerful example came from Winthrop University where a student, Riley Dill, overcame obstacles when her pro-life group was initially denied approval. Dill’s determination, supported by SFLA legal counsel, resulted in a swift victory, and she now leads Winthrop Students for Life.

Check out some of SFLA’s other past free speech wins:

  • The University of New Mexico (UNM) charged campus free speech events security fees. SFLA’s general counsel reached an agreement with UNM, and Students for Life at UNM are finally relieved of their $5,461.40 fine.
  • The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill) agreed to back down after surprising the Carolina Students for Life with seemingly discriminatory fees following Hawkins’ speaking tour stop at the school in 2023.
  • The East Career Technical Academy (ECTA) and the Clark County School District (CCSD) were served a free speech lawsuit by student plaintiffs from ECTA SFLA’s leadership team with help from SFLA, Thomas More Society, and the O’Mara Law Firm.

PLG includes Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), that together make up the nation’s largest, pro-life youth organization, managing a grassroots political and policy operation engaging Americans of all ages but with a special emphasis on the largest segment of voters — the Youth Vote. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, PLG/SFLA/SFLAction serves more than 1,500 groups on middle, high school, college, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. Our team has more conversations with this generation targeted by the abortion lobby than any other pro-life operation in the world, each week reaching more than 4 million across social media platforms and averaging 1.3 million video views. In addition to SFLA/SFLAction, PLG leads multiple initiatives to lead and serve the future of the pro-life movement including the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, Standing With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement. Over more than 17 years, PLG CEO Kristan Hawkins has grown the operation into a more than $20M organization, now preparing for an abortion-free America.
