If you can’t destroy them with facts, destroy them with violence. At least, that’s what Students for Life of America (SFLA) imagines “triggered” pro-aborts must think when they’re losing an argument. On campuses in all 50 states across America, SFLA students and staff face violent responses to the loving reality that human beings in the womb matter.
As always, SFLA stands AGAINST violence when debating and fighting for preborn babies. But, once again, that’s not what we experienced. This week, an SFLA-partnered group at UNC Asheville stayed resolute and peaceful while debating a heated pro-abortion student on campus who approached their table as a part of SFLA’s “Think Before You Drink” campus tour.
When words failed Adrian Miguelez, a pro-abortion student who believes that abortion should be allowed until birth and is running for a sophomore senator seat in UNC Asheville’s student government, violence came next.

“He started angrily calling us names from the beginning, and I tried to deescalate him,” said SFLA Carolinas Regional Coordinator Alicia Foreman. “He stated he supports abortion through all nine months for any reason as well. I asked him to leave because he was getting aggressive, and he did leave. He left but came back not even five minutes later, even angrier. He was cussing at us and calling us ‘fascists’ and ‘misogynists.'”
“I f*** hate you, I f*** hate you,” he said, while Foreman filmed him. “Y’all are the people who are spreading propaganda.”
As he proceeded to walk off without explaining what “propaganda” they were spreading, he violently ripped the group’s tablecloth off, throwing all the resources and pamphlets to the ground.
“The last thing we want when we’re on college campuses is violence, but unfortunately, people have been hurt by the abortion industry and don’t know how to handle that anger,” said Foreman. “On campus, our goal is to have calm conversations, even when we’re met with hostility.”
When Foreman reported Miguelez to campus police, they said the student would likely get a “slap on the wrist.” It is unknown whether Miguelez is facing disciplinary action.

While these interactions are unfortunate, they further prove the point that those who embrace abortion extremism often do so without facts or knowledge. Some even lash out verbally and physically.
Going back to 2018, during SFLA President Kristan Hawkins’ speaking tour at California State University, California State University, Fullerton, and University of California, Hawkins was threatened and protested by Antifa, as well as being called a “Christian fascist.”
As recently as last year, during the 2024 election, when abortion up until birth and infanticide were hotly debated, SFLA experienced the ire of the abortion Left.
For example, in the sunshine state of Florida, a Florida International University (FIU) professor wasn’t too happy about SFLA at FIU peacefully engaged in pro-life advocacy efforts on campus.

When the SFLA group asked him about late-term abortion, he said repeatedly, “She can kill it.”
Thankfully, no one was physically assaulted, but the same can’t be said in Virginia. On the same day this incident happened, another incident on the east coast included a trans activist charging into a Virginia Pro-Life March.
Students for Life Action (SFLAction) Government Affairs Coordinator Savanna Deretich videoed the incident and said the following:

“Apparently, this activist is infamous and has appeared at events like this before. He came rushing forward, chanting something, and I knew he was going to attack, so I pulled out my phone to record it. He sprinted up to our people, knocked the glasses off people’s heads, dashed through our march sign, and kept running. I saw he was arrested by police sometime later.”
And when fake facts fail, pro-abortion protestors’ next attempt can be physical violence or intimidation. SFLAction has written previously about the violence against the pro-life movement – ranging from literal assault to verbal abuse to vandalism. Some examples include:
Despite the hostile interaction between this UNC Asheville student and the SFLA-partnered group, SFLA Spokesperson & Strategic Partnership Advisor Lydia Taylor Davis is excited to come onto UNC Asheville’s campus with her spring speaking tour, “Abortion is Violence.” This tour was wildly successful last year, including a viral event at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where Taylor Davis was mobbed. Taylor Davis stood her ground, addressing the mob and even writing about her experience in a Daily Wire op-ed.
“Their efforts to silence my voice for the voiceless prove my point: these tactics wouldn’t be necessary if abortion extremism was popular. Their actions and insults against decent and good people solidify their perception as loudmouths who are intolerant of the beauty of life,” wrote Taylor Davis in her Daily Wire op-ed. “I’ve received countless messages from people saying I’ve helped change their minds on abortion. Millions of people have seen my content from my tour stops and seen the pro-life movement challenging the pro-abortion narrative shoved down our throats.”
As evident by the numerous verbal assaults, vandalism, and physical threats SFLA has encountered in various ways, we remain undeterred and wholly determined to protect preborn lives and speak for those who can’t speak for themselves.
