Jazmin Casco, one of the National Leaders Collective’s October leaders of the month, is a William Wilberforce Fellow attending Florida International University (FIU). Learn more about Casco’s activism below.

The core belief and scientific fact of life beginning at conception is what inspired my pro-life activism, and as someone who went through foster care, I believe life has value regardless of circumstance. It’s a message I stand behind and have a personal connection to – no matter the circumstance of conception, whether it be rape or an unwanted pregnancy, it doesn’t change a person’s value. Everyone is deserving of life.

Joining FIU’s Students for Life of America (SFLA) group has challenged me to get out of my shell and be bolder for life. At one point, I was terrified of public speaking and the conflict of talking to students who disagreed. Now, I’m a current Wilberforce fellow and growing into a better leader in all areas of the pro-life movement, informing people and advocating for resources for women in need.

So far this semester, my group has engaged in over 200 conversations with students about Florida’s Amendment 4, which, if enacted, would allow abortion up until birth, educating them about what it truly means and urging them to vote no. It is because of these issues that I applied for the Wilberforce fellowship. So many students are clueless about the amendment’s existence on the ballot and its dire consequences. It’s been rewarding for me to educate students about this abortion extremism that they might not have known about otherwise.

Attending the National Leaders Collective (NLC) Kickoff was incredible and inspiring. Seeing so many young people dedicated to the pro-life cause reignited my passion. I am most excited to change people’s mind in the wake of an election year.
