Looking for a local pro-life victory spurred on by the people? Look no further than the defeat of Northampton County Councilor Kelly Keegan’s pro-abortion agenda.

A few weeks ago, Keegan wrote and introduced a resolution to make Northampton County in Pennsylvania a “right to choose” sanctuary county, which is another way of saying a no questions asked killing field for preborn children.

The goal of her resolution states:

“The County of Northampton, Pennsylvania declares itself a Right-To-Choose Sanctuary County, recognizing that anyone should have a right to abortion, on-demand, and without question.”

This is an extreme position since nine in 10 of the Youth Vote opposes the Biden Administration policies, which includes late-term abortions. Not to mention 37% don’t want abortion legalized up until nine months of pregnancy.

Throughout the nearly three-hour county council meeting, she often decried the loss of women’s rights as if abortion is the only means for women to have equality or protection today.

How is her position not antithetical to the original suffragist ideals, a group promulgated on representing a vulnerable population, not seeking the demolition of one?

Keegan wasn’t the only county councilor to express her pro-abortion views. County Councilor Jeff Warren stated, “‘we live in a time where women’s freedoms are being taken away here in the United States; like it or not, that’s what’s happening.”

Locals from and surrounding areas of Northampton County came out to speak against this proposed resolution and vehemently urge the country council to vote no. Anna Gidosh, a strong community advocate reached out to Students for Life of America (SFLA) through a Civiclick page prior to the meeting to flood the council members inboxes with a united message: This county will NOT be an abortion mill.

County residents sent over 60 emails to dissuade the council from taking such drastic action against the pre-born. Ultimately the County Council voted no on the resolution. In a three-to-three draw, three country councilors voted yes, three voted no, and three abstained.

It’s clear that Keegan and many of her pro-abortion supporters and fellow county councilors are deep within the pro-abortion narratives. Many of the resolution supporters’ points were steeped in the fear that if women didn’t have access to abortion throughout every point in pregnancy, then they will die.  This is something we know isn’t true. If anything, abortion puts women more at physical and mental risk.

We are encouraged that this pro-abortion resolution failed to pass. It just goes to show the an active and local pro-life community makes a difference. We hope that if this effort should ever be brought back for a future vote, that the county council will stand firm against it, and know that the Pro-Life Generation is watching!
