GUEST POST: President Biden recently received a letter on his desk from three United States Senators requesting something unprecedented but very important. Senators Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) called for the Pro-Life Flag to be flown in front of the White House and federal agency buildings during October for Respect Life Month.
As the Biden Administration showcased the Pride Flag at the White House and other government buildings in June for Pride Month, these pro-life senators are simply asking the president to be inclusive of pro-life Americans, as well.
Their letter to Biden read, “We are asking you to also honor Respect Life Month and fly the Pro-Life Flag to send a powerful statement that our country celebrates Americans of all beliefs and is committed to protecting innocent and vulnerable life.”
Americans in every state of our union share the belief that life should be protected from the moment of conception until natural death. Flying the Pro-Life Flag during Respect Life Month would show that the federal government truly stands with its citizens in “upholding the unalienable truth that all people, including the unborn, have a right to life,” wrote the Senators.
October became Respect Life Month in 1972 when the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops installed a pro-life program to prepare for the 1973 ruling of Roe v. Wade. For the past 50 years, Americans have been celebrating it ever since to honor the dignity and value of every human life, including the preborn child.

In their letter to Biden, the Senators also gave a description of the Pro-Life Flag, highlighting how the white background symbolizes the innocence of the preborn child. The two footprints shine light on the humanity of the child in the womb, while the hands above and below the footprints represent the love a mother has for her baby. Finally, the two pink and blue stripes represent the two lives involved in a pregnancy: the mother and her child.
The Pro-Life Generation is tired of lip-service from government officials; tired of politicians putting up a pro-life pretense for votes but never actually putting forth pro-life policy or fighting to defend life while in office. That’s why it is so encouraging to see Senators Ricketts, Hyde-Smith and Cramer challenge Biden to respect life — or at least acknowledge the Americans who do just that during the month of October.
When we look at our culture and the mainstream media, pro-lifers are severely lacking in representation. However, this is our country, too, and the president of the United States is supposed to represent all the people.
Additionally, for perspective, only 7.2% of the population identifies as LGBT according to Gallup News, and Biden flew the Pride Flag during the month of June. In contrast, a large percentage of Americans believe there should be at least some restrictions on abortion, and nearly 40% believe abortion should be prohibited in all or most cases, according to the Pew Research Center.
If Biden makes the decision to fly a flag that does not represent all of the American people (i.e., anything other than the American flag itself), it is only fair and equal that he should fly the Pro-Life Flag during Respect Life Month to represent the pro-life population, as well.
As for whether Biden will actually heed the request of the pro-life Senators, one can only hope he will air on the side of inclusivity for Americans who choose to respect the value of every human life. Afterall, there should be nothing controversial about wanting to defend and protect innocent human life — it is, after all, the basic of all American rights: the right to life.
