Students For Life Action Calls on New Hampshire Legislators to Support HB 434 Mandating that Taxpayer Funds Support Life-Affirming Care, Not Abortion

“New Hampshire has consistently withheld public funds from abortion and should continue to do so because pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion,” said SFLAction’s Kate Maloney.

CONCORD, NH (02-10-2021) – Students for Life Action’s Kate Maloney joined a virtual hearing of the New Hampshire House Judiciary Committee as they debate HB 434, a bill that would prohibit taxpayer funding of abortion. This bill would codify the tradition in New Hampshire to restrict public funding of abortion unless the mother’s life is in danger.

Maloney, New England Regional Coordinator for Students for Life of America/SFLAction, made the following statement:

“Good morning members of the New Hampshire State Legislature, my name is Kate Maloney, and I am the New England Regional Coordinator for Students for Life of America and SFLAction. I am here today to represent the Pro-Life interests of the students of New Hampshire, the generation most targeted for abortion by a predatory abortion industry.

“I strongly urge you to support HB 434 to continue to restrict public funds for abortion, something that even Millennials and Gen Z can support. Recently, Students for Life of America’s Institute for Pro-Life Advancement released a poll of those demographics and found that all kinds of limits on abortion were embraced by those often considered the most pro-abortion.

“In fact, almost 7 out of 10 Millennials and Gen Z want to VOTE on abortion-related policy.  More than 7 out of 10 expressed support for limits on abortion. Almost 5 in 10 do not support forcing all Americans, regardless of their beliefs, to pay for abortions. Fewer supported that coercion. And significantly, these taxpayers do not want their money used to pay for abortions, whether in the US (48%) or worldwide (53%). Those outnumber those who favor taxpayers footing the bill for all abortion.

“More abortion and more taxpayer funded abortion is not what most people want.

“In a state where abortion access is unlimited and where abortion facilities are not inspected by the department of health, it is in this legislature’s best interest to respect the consciences of its taxpayers to ensure that public funds are not used for abortions. In the state of New Hampshire, we have numerous options for women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy, there are Federally Qualified Health Care Centers, Pregnancy Help Centers, and maternity homes that are there to support and enrich the individual, not profit from them. Students for Life has an initiative called STANDING WITH YOU to provide parents and pregnant and parenting students with information on resources available to them. We are standing by to help.

“New Hampshire has consistently withheld public funds from abortion and should continue to do so because pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion. Let’s be clear, if your so-called healthcare kills people on purpose, you’re doing it wrong. In conclusion I urge you to support the passage of HB 434, and to continue a legacy of funding life-affirming healthcare. Thank you for your time.”
