As the 2024-2025 academic year comes to a close,  Students for Life of America (SFLA) will be awarding several outstanding Students for Life groups with Best New Group, Best High School Group, Best College Group, and Best Standing With You (SWY) Group distinctions – and you get to help us choose which groups deserve these awards! Students for Life at Miami Dade College – Kendall Campus has been nominated for the New Group of the Year Award. 

The winning group from each category, selected by the Pro-Life Generation (PLG), will receive a certificate, a shoutout on our national social media accounts, and a $300 donation to help expand the group’s efforts further next school year. 

About the Group 

Students for Life at Miami Dade College was established in 2025 and has over 40 active members. Despite facing pushback from school administration trying to stop them from becoming an official student organization, the group has hosted over 50 events in less than a year—35 of which were tabling events in free speech zones, including the “Abortion on the Ballot” Fall Tour, “Vote No on Amendment 4” tabletop, and the “Think Before You Drink” Spring Tour.  

Although they tabled from a free speech zone and at a public university (where free speech legally applies EVERYWHERE), police officers confronted them, claiming they could not be in the space. The group’s determination and grit despite adversity like this have served as a source of inspiration for other group members, students on campus, and groups across Florida. 

  While the group is awaiting official approval from the Miami Dade College administration, this has not deterred them from engaging in impactful activities within designated free speech zones. Even if they cannot reserve space formally for tables and events, they have been connecting and mobilizing with the other local Students for Life groups at schools such as Florida International University (FIU), Saint Thomas University, and Broward College.   

Groups qualify for the New Group of the Year award for going above and beyond in the Five Pillars of Pro-Life Activism in the 2024-2025 academic year and if they were founded between January 2024 – January 2025.

Students for Life at Miami Dade College’s Top Accomplishments in the 2024-2025 Academic Year 

Saving Families One Life at a Time 

A highlight of the year includes their compassionate support for an expecting couple. After connecting with them during a tabling event, the group emboldened a father who wanted to protect his baby by helping him encourage the mother to choose Life. Ultimately, this led the couple to walk out of Planned Parenthood. The group has since provided them a “Standing With You” kit and organized a baby shower for the expecting couple on campus.   

Keeping Florida Pro-Life 

Members participated in the National Pro-Life March & our National Pro-Life Summit and attended the Florida March for the Preborn in April, along with our other outstanding students from around the state. This is the first Florida march in quite a few years, and Students for Life at Miami Dade College represented the Pro-Life Generation (PLG) fantastically. While at the Florida Pro-Life March, these students assisted in protecting SFLA Spokesperson Lydia Taylor Davis, who was speaking at the event, and other SFLA team members from Antifa protestors who physically blocked these ladies.   

During each trip, students also lobbied on Capitol Hill and in Tallahassee to defund Planned Parenthood! 

Abortion on the Ballot Efforts in Florida 

Amendment 4 was on the ballot in the fall of 2024 in Florida. If passed, abortion would have been legal until the moment of birth and enshrined in the state constitution. With Students for Life at Miami Dade College’s efforts to inform everyone on campus to “Vote No on Amendment 4” and hosting the “Abortion on the Ballot” tabletop, Amendment 4 failed! Students for Life at Miami Dade College help to keep Florida pro-life!   

COMING SOON IN 2025-2026… 

Students for Life at Miami Dade College hope to continue their leadership on campus by engaging more proactively with the administration to secure funding for their initiatives during the 2025-2026 academic year. The group is dedicated to expanding their outreach efforts by hosting additional tabling events, sidewalk chalk days, prayer vigils at Planned Parenthood, sidewalk counseling, and donation drives to foster a supportive environment for pregnant students. Their goal is to change the campus culture and provide ongoing assistance to pregnant couples, ensuring they feel supported as students and parents.
