My name is Kayli Sutherland, and I am a recent graduate of Florida State University and a 2026 Standing With You Fellow in Students for Life’s National Leaders Collective. During my Fellowship, I have learned all about effective planning, pregnancy support for vulnerable women and men, and how to effectively provide access to resources for people experiencing unplanned pregnancies.

I became a part of this Fellowship after I had an encounter with God where he showed me my calling. I decided to switch my lifetime goal from becoming a doctor to going into full-time pro-life work. Students for Life of America was accessible and provided free access to bundles of training on apologetics, compassion for the vulnerable, and access to career mentors, which equipped me for the calling I had recently acquired. I am grateful for the impact SFLA has allowed me to have on the pro-life movement. Additionally, I am grateful for the lessons I will take from this Fellowship that will carry me through future jobs, motherhood, and relationships with the vulnerable women and men experiencing unplanned pregnancies.

My first project for the Standing With You Fellowship was to get a policy change on Florida State’s campus. I began by working with school faculty to get plugged into groups that have access to the school’s health center, which led me to connect with the faculty in charge of the website for our school’s vulnerable populations. Eventually, the team I worked with and I were able to get an entire section of the school’s website published with details about school and community resources for pregnant and parenting students.

My second project was to fundraise for a local Pregnancy Center, and I chose to do this by hosting educational seminars on abortion and a Christian’s role in the pro-life movement. The seminars were titled “What Love Is Not,” “How to Be the Hero,” and “Is God Pro-Life?” I was also able to speak at a Turning Point USA meeting through an opportunity that arose from these seminars. Some of the people who attended the seminars were inspired to begin a fundraising group within their church, which raised over $1,000 in Pregnancy Center donations such as diapers, swaddles, Bibles, pacifiers, and baby wipes. Additionally, I had some friends tell me the seminars changed their pro-abortion stances, and one of my friends who thought she may be pregnant told me that she knew she could never have an abortion after hearing the truth about the abortion industry.

I grew in leadership and boldness this year. A year ago, I wasn’t able to have a detailed discussion about abortion. Now, I am able to dive into the various facets of a pro-abortion mindset and use science and Scripture to back up my pro-life beliefs. One challenge that I faced was not having access to easily understandable information about pro-life apologetics, and my Fellowship provided this information and more through calls, curriculum, and access to leaders in the pro-life movement. I will be continuing activism in the pro-life movement after graduation by working for Florida Family Voice. I will be seeking to help Florida’s churches grow in knowledge on Life, religious liberty, family, and marriage, which are all critical pillars of the pro-life movement.
