SFLA also Signed onto an Amicus Brief in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin, Set for Argument at the Supreme Court today, & Continues our Fight for Free Speech in a Similar Case in South Dakota
“The abortion mindset poisons so much of our culture, and you can see that clearly in the New Jersey case at the Supreme Court today,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “Trying to intimidate Pregnancy Resource Centers by going after their donors represents the kind of bullying that pro-abortion states have used way too many times. Once again, love for abortion turns into hate for those who love LIFE and choose to invest in mothers and their children, born and preborn.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (12-02-2025) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins noted that she was proud for a chance to add SFLA’s name to an amicus brief in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin, set for argument today at the Supreme Court. The brief, organized by Advancing American Freedom (AAF), notes that the free speech and freedom of assembly rights of pro-life, pro-family, and pro-faith groups like SFLA will be harmed if abortion bullies in blue states are allowed to go after an organization’s supporters. The case mirrors an on-going legal case that Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is engaged with in South Dakota.
The brief in the case before the Supreme Court argues: “No government official should be able to use his legitimate law enforcement power to pursue those with whom he disagrees politically. This case presents an opportunity for this Court to make clear that such targeting is a direct violation of the constitutional rule of law and that the victims of such persecution need not sacrifice their First Amendment rights in practice before they have the benefit of federal judicial review”
Hawkins observed, “Attacks on free speech are common on college and university campuses, and we’ve identified the top 9 ways in which rights are usually violated, but this case makes it unlucky Number 10. Going after an organization’s supporters, exposing them to doxxing and undermining people’s rights to freely associate with others who share their views, is a threat to free speech in America.”
Previously, the most common attacks on free speech have been:
A property crimes push back including the vandalization, arson, and outright theft of displays and signs.
A virtual poll tax on speech often in the form of security fees not charged to all who require it.
A Heckler’s Veto, in which schools cancel or move events when extremist groups or a disgruntled student oppose a speaker.
A slow walk to nowhere when a pattern of delays for approval of events or clubs creates a virtual veto of student speech.
A not-even-separate-but-equal accommodation as schools refuse similar support for pro-life students as given to others.
A religious gag rule in which schools may allow students to speak as long as they stay silent about faith.
A required “Trigger Warning” in which the school signals through signs posted in the areas where pro-life speech is taking place that such speech is controversial and offensive, to be possibly avoided or protested.
A power of the purse veto involving biased use of student fees.
A threat of violence veto.
“This case adds to our common attacks ‘A Big Brother’s Threat of Doxxing,” said Hawkins. “The Pro-Life Generation is proud to support Pregnancy Resource Centers and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) as we once again pray that the Supreme Court will defend the rights of ordinary Americans to act according to their beliefs.”
