From the webcast: “We need your help…and right now. Today, you’re going to hear from folks who have been working on Capitol Hill and in Washington D.C. over decades to end the misappropriation of scarce taxpayer dollars and resources to abortion vendors like ‘Planned Parenthood.’ And you’re going to learn what you can do to help push this battle over the finish line, how we can stop the forced funding of abortion.”

In a live, online event that brought together pro-life leaders from across the country, Kristan Hawkins hosted a conversation about the once-in-a-generation opportunity to defund abortion giant Planned Parenthood via the budget reconciliation process currently underway in Congress. On Monday, May 12th, at 11:30 AM ET, Hawkins was joined by Abby Johnson, President of And Then There Were None (ATTWN); Marjorie Dannenfeiser, President of Sudan B. Anthony Pro-Life America; Penny Nance, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA); and David Bereit, founder of 40 Days for Life. These leaders called on pro-lifers everywhere to contact their legislators and tell them it’s time for Planned Parenthood to fund itself.

During the webcast, Dannenfeiser explained Planned Parenthood’s origins in the eugenics movement, as well as the legislative process by which we’ll finally get them defunded.

Abby Johnson then spoke on how Planned Parenthood receives taxpayer funds and handles—or, rather, mishandles—that money, citing multiple instances of Medicaid fraud lawsuits filed against them. “If you defund them, and you take away their funds, they cannot survive,” Johnson said.

In addition to calling for prayer, Penny Nance pointed out the economic harms that flow from forced taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood—to the tune of 500-700 million dollars annually—as well as the organization’s attacks on young people through life-ruining cross-sex hormonal “treatment.”

David Bereit then encouraged viewers from across the country, emphatically telling them their voices do matter and do make a difference. He noted that, when Texas slashed Planned Parenthood’s state funding, the abortion vendor had to close half its Texas facilities. A similar thing could happen on a national scale if this initiative gets approved by Congress. “We have to be willing to swing for the fences. We have to be willing to go for the big goals,” he said. “Don’t let anybody tell you it’s impossible, because we know with God all things are possible.”

Kristan Hawkins agreed, reminding the pro-life movement that many people (even pro-lifers)  once thought Roe v. Wade would never be reversed—yet here we are. The same thing can happen with defunding Planned Parenthood.

All the leaders reiterated the pivotal importance of this moment. “If we can’t do it now, we can never do it,” Nance warned.

The webcast dispatched a rousing call to unite the pro-life movement and rally behind a critical mission to defund Planned Parenthood for at least the next ten years (the maximum time permitted). After decades of effort, one of the premier goals of the movement, a goal that would financially devastate one of largest mass-murdering organizations in history, lies within reach.

We’re calling on YOU to help us push this initiative pass the finish-line—a historic win that will not only bring economic boons to our country but more importantly will save hundreds of thousands of preborn babies and protect our nation’s teenagers from the sterilization caused by cross-sex hormone “treatment”–of which Planned Parenthood is now the largest provider to young people.

In addition to hosting this powerful webcast, Students for Life Action is also actively engaged in visiting our legislators’ district offices to help push this initiative forward.

Watch the replay of the webcast here and call, email, or visit your Congressperson or Senator to urge them to pass this initiative.
