“We are still celebrating the end of ‘Roe v. Wade,’ but we will not give up until every child is welcomed into our hearts and homes. Tragically, lives are still at risk as a direct result of federal policy. In fact, on America’s 250th birthday, our government seems prepared to give the nation’s largest abortion vendor, Planned Parenthood, a gift: taxpayer money,” said Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins. “Our resources and our nation must invest in future generations and fight for the foundational right of American society: a right to LIFE.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-05-2026) – Save the date! Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) THIRD annual National Celebrate Life Day is set for Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET in front of the U.S. Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Similar events will be held in states across the country. Co-sponsoring the event is Sidewalk Advocates for Life.
SFLA President Kristan Hawkins observed: “More than anything else right now, our nation needs prayer. This year, instead of hosting a gala, we’ll be holding sunset worship and prayer events nationwide, with the main event taking place in Washington, D.C. on Capitol Hill grounds. As dusk falls, we’ll light luminaries across the country and in Washington D.C. in honor of America’s 250th birthday, a nation that, from its founding, was built on the right to LIFE.”

There will be 250 luminaries at each location, one for each of America’s 250 years. But not all the luminaries will be bright. The 49 years representing of the horrors of Roe v. Wade will glow red, a powerful reminder of the great evil that still haunts our land.
Speakers for this year’s event include Students for Life’s own Kristan Hawkins and Lydia Taylor Davis, along with Promise Keepers CEO Shane Winnings, pro-life physician Dr. William Lile, Turning Point USA’s Pierre Wilson, Be Their Village’s Christine Yeargen, and more.
Hawkins observed: “Throughout history, light has been a signal in moments of darkness. It has served as a threat, a warning, a symbol of refuge. From Gideon’s torches in the book of Judges, to lanterns in a Boston church steeple, to candles in a window of a home in the Underground Railroad, light has never fought with force . . . but it has always revealed the truth.
“These 250 luminaries will stand as a visible declaration that America is a nation Called to Life and, while the violence of abortion has not ended, we will not grow weary or silent, but we will go grow stronger, larger, and more resolved to shine the light of truth into every dark place until the evil of abortion in America is vanquished.
“We’ve spent the past few National Celebrate Life events celebrating the fall of Roe. This year, we’re still celebrating, but we’re also reminding everyone that much, much more needs to change. It’s America’s 250th birthday, and the government has invited the wrong guests to the party with Planned Parenthood set to once again be eligible for government funding on July 4. The so-called ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ signed by President Trump last year on the Fourth of July, only cut healthcare resources lost to Planned Parenthood for one year. We will pray that this year, we can make those resources go to life-saving healthcare, not abortion vendors.”

Event organizer SFLA Executive Vice President Tina Whittington said, “On America’s 250th birthday, our hope and prayer is that our nation will turn once again to the sentiments of our founding documents that recognized we are a nation covered by God’s grace where all people born and preborn are accepted into and protected by our common brotherhood of humanity. Our prayer is that we wouldn’t be a country divided by abortion states and abortion free states, but one United States standing for the dignity and intrinsic value of all life.”
