Last week, news broke that the Biden administration had illegally funneled $90 million to Planned Parenthood, not just violating but completely disregarding federal law.

The kicker? They disguised their communications using a code word: “Benghazi.”

For Gen Z, that word may not bear much weight. But as Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins and Kristi Stone Hamrick wrote for the Washington Examiner Monday, the term “Benghazi” incites an instinctive reaction in everyone who was politically conscious back in 2012.

“For those who don’t really remember 2012,” they write, “[Hillary] Clinton was President Barack Obama’s secretary of state when ultimately four Americans were killed in an attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Not only was she in charge when help did not arrive in time after a U.S. outpost was attacked, she empowered those who did.”

Clinton’s first error was in leading the charge to arm Lydian “rebels” — a group filled with radical jihadists. Then, despite repeated assaults on the Lydian consulate, Clinton ignored the Americans’ pleas for more security, calling them “not my ball to carry.”

The slogan at the time became “Hillary lied and people died.”

It’s ironic that the word used to describe government failure resulting in loss of life is the same word the Biden administration chose, almost a decade later, to cover up its funding for the nation’s largest abortion vendor.

“A term describing a federal travesty that resulted in the loss of life was chosen to cover up, we are told, and alleged federal use of funds for an organization that kills people for a living,” write Hawkins and Hamrick.

“People died in Benghazi, and they continue to die in Planned Parenthood, government-supported operations. That’s why the call to debar and defund Planned Parenthood will not be ignored by pro-life voters.”
