In an abortion-crazed state like California, where abortion is legal until fetal “viability,” one might think there’s no hope for a woman lacking the support needed to carry her pregnancy to term. But there’s always hope and there’s always support, as a new Students for Life of America group at Virtus Classical Education Foundation (VCEF), located in Temecula, CA, recently demonstrated by running a hugely successful diaper drive.

On Saturday, April 12th, as part of a quarterly statewide effort known as the California Diaper Drive Day, 15 students of the recently launched SFLA group at VCEF came together to host a diaper drive in front of the participating grocery store Stater Bros. In tandem with this Temecula effort, groups as far as Los Angeles, Bakersfield, and even Washington State joined in the collective effort to gather items for families with a diaper need.
The California Diaper Drive Day was created by SFLA’s Western Campus Formation Coordinator Christian Alan with two goals in mind: first, to help meet the needs of new & expecting mothers across the state by mobilizing student volunteers to invite shoppers of a participating store to make an item donation; second, to send a message to Californians that young adults care about mothers and babies in need- and they should, too.

These goals were fulfilled tenfold. VCEF Students for Life collected 7,411 diapers in just four hours of tabling. In total, more than 8,000 diapers, 53 baby bottles, 20 packs of baby wipes, cribs, and other supplies were collected by all the participating California clubs on that day. VCEF Students for Life’s success was so impressive, they even caught the attention of WORLD Watch News and were featured in their April 21st evening coverage.

The California Diaper Drive Day not only helps stock and supply pregnancy resource centers but also reminds us as Pro-Lifers that there are more people who want to meaningfully support the livelihoods of babies and their mothers than we think. We never know who might be generous enough to make a donation.
The California Diaper Drive returns on Saturday, May 10th at various Stater Bros. locations. For more information, email [email protected]
