“Christian schools nationwide have been pressured to make peace with ‘a little’ abortion by providing connections to abortion vendor so-called ‘resources,’” said Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins. “But when confronted with the facts, some schools took a step back, and we achieved victories as they then promoted local Pregnancy Help Centers. Without the Pro-Life Generation’s pressure, these school grades could be so much worse. We’re energized and keeping the pressure on Christian schools to represent and support LIFE.” 

TRAGIC: More than One in 11 Christians Schools had a Connection to Planned Parenthood.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (9-06-2024) – The Pro-Life Generation’s (PLG) Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement found that more than one in 11 Christian schools maintain some type of relationship with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion vendor, which is a 10% increase since the reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. However, the presence of and pressure from the pro-life movement has caused Christian schools nationwide to reverse course, taking abortion resources off their websites and replacing them with Pregnancy Help Center (PHC) resources.  

“This is a significant win for the pro-life movement,” said PLG CEO Kristan Hawkins. “PLG’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement found that Planned Parenthood stalks college students, with nearly 90% of all Planned Parenthood facilities located within five miles of a college campus. They don’t need any extra advertisements, courtesy of the faith-based community. What women need is real help – and Christian schools should be doing that through PHCs, not promoting death through abortion.”

Some key findings from the Pro-Life Generation’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement:

• Christian schools’ support for abortion increased annually by 10% since 2022 in the wake of Roe‘s reversal.  
• One in 11 Christian schools maintained some type of relationship with Planned Parenthood.  
• Nearly half (42%) of the infractions overall were Christian schools referring students to Planned Parenthood as a “health resource.”  
• 12 Christian schools removed ties to the abortion industry after initial contact with researchers in 2024. 54 total connections have been severed since the start of this study in 2021. 
• 65 professors at Christian schools have a connection to the abortion industry through events or publications and 14 of those professors have been directly affiliated with abortion industry leaders like Planned Parenthood through previous employment or board positions.
• Christian schools earning an “A+” grade by supporting their local Pregnancy Help Center increased 32%.

Though Christian schools have made positive changes, like Ave Maria University which has begun promoting StandingWithYou.org from their campus website, some schools directly refer students to abortion services, not just Planned Parenthood. Saint Elizabeth University, a Catholic School, is notable as it went from an A to an F due to several new health referral links to local abortion facilities and Planned Parenthood. Furthermore, Emory University in Brookhaven, GA, ranks among the top five worst Christian schools, as they are directly involved in committing abortions.

Students for Life of America & the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement will continue to call out Christian and Catholic schools for betraying their morals and values, and specifically, the very students and preborn lives they claim to care about.
