GUEST POST: In a new episode of the series ‘How to Win the Debates’ on the Explicitly Pro-Life podcast hosted by Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins, Hawkins debunks three myths about abortion commonly believed by those claiming to be pro-choice.
The episode begins with highlighting the first myth: Abortion is a women’s issue. While abortion is a human rights issue, the abortion lobby has attempted to attach abortion to modern feminism. Why? Because the original feminists prior to the 1960s recognized abortion for what it truly was – an atrocity against humankind.
However, abortion supporters needed a movement to attach themselves to and feminism became the scapegoat. Abortion is not merely a women’s issue, though; it dehumanizes the most vulnerable group of people and commits life-ending violence against them — making it everyone’s issue.
Hawkins also tackles the myth that abortion is simply the removal of “pregnancy tissue.” Abortion is the ending of a human life, not just the removal of a type of “tissue.” This lie is propagated, however, because abortion supporters desire to dehumanize the preborn child as much as possible. To mend this myth, society needs to be truly educated on what this “pregnancy tissue” is – uterine lining, placenta, and most importantly a living, valuable, unique human being.
The last myth in this episode is that abortion facilities are regulated like normal healthcare centers. First off, there is nothing “normal” or “healthcare”-related about abortion facilities. If your healthcare purposely kills someone, that’s not healthcare. Secondly, many abortion facilities are not inspected, and it’s no wonder that we don’t have a federal abortion reporting law – there’s barely any regulation at the facility level!
It’s so important for the Pro-Life Generation to understand the common myths that people believe about abortion and how to tackle them head-on. These three myths will only remain believable in our society until we speak up with the truth.
