SFLAction Calls on Arkansas Governor to Drop His Plans to Shame People Conceived in Rape by “Revisiting” and Reducing Legal Protections for People Like Them

“We don’t issue birth certificates in the United States with a ratings system based on how someone was conceived. A birth certificate is a sign of a single fact – that a unique life has entered the world,” said SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins. “We are calling on Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson to reject discrimination and prejudice against children based on perceptions of their race, sex, abilities, or parents. The Pro-Life Generation rejects shaming children for things beyond their control.”

WASHINGTON D.C.  (05-24-2022) – Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins called on Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson to clarify his support for people conceived in rape as his CNN appearance over the weekend “gave the impression that the governor was more interested in auditioning for a TV gig on CNN or MSNBC than in supporting vulnerable people in the womb.”

Students for Life Action is calling on the citizens of Arkansas to let their governor know that they want to keep strong protections for preborn life in place. CLICK HERE to learn more.

“It’s offensive to pro-life Americans that Governor Hutchinson looks at what might be the removal of the cancer that is Roe v. Wade from our Constitution as an opportunity for making sure that more innocent lives are ended,” said Hawkins. “Clearly crimes against women must be fully prosecuted, and the victims of violence helped. But we mourn as well for the innocent preborn who also suffer when people like the governor wish them dead. The pain of assault is not made better by the pain of abortion. But to truly understand the value that people conceived in rape feel for their lives, we should hear from them and not politicians.”

Students for Life Action worked tirelessly to win passage of SB 6, The Arkansas Unborn Child Protection Act last year, alongside state leaders like the law’s sponsor, Sen. Jason Rapert (R-Conway).

When she testified for the measure, Jacinta Florence, now the former Missouri and Arkansas Regional Coordinator with Students for Life & Students for Life Action, noted:

“Classifying fellow humans as “other” and dehumanizing them are key steps in any genocide — and we see these unfold in the abortion genocide, which has ended the lives of one quarter of my generation.

“To excuse abortion, its proponents make the nonsensical claim that there is a difference between humans and human persons, and that only the latter category of humans deserves equal protection under the law. Conveniently for them, the child in the womb whom they seek to kill falls into the unprotected category.

“SB6, the Arkansas Unborn Child Protection Act, is a bold statement of the truth that children in the womb are fellow human beings deserving of the full protection of the law.
