A 16-year-old girl from Papua New Guinea recently died after taking the abortion drug Misoprostol. This tragedy should be a huge wake-up call for anyone who believes the narrative painted by the abortion industry like Planned Parenthood that chemical abortion is perfectly safe.
The Papua New Guinea Post Courier reported that the teenager obtained Misoprostol on the street (as abortion is illegal in the country) and died after ingesting the drugs.
The article contained a brief interview with the girl’s father, describing him as “distraught.” He said that his daughter had asked him for money for school items, but he had no idea that she would spend it on chemical abortion drugs instead. “‘Having lost my only daughter, I do not want to see other families also lose their daughters through abortion … I call on authorities and the Department of Health to please look into this and find out how Misoprostol is being sold on the streets in broad daylight.’” Her father chose to remain anonymous to “protect his late daughter’s memories.”
This girl was not killed because abortion is illegal in Papua New Guinea. This was not a “back-alley abortion.” She ingested the same Misoprostol that is totally legal to use for over 40% of all abortions in America and has killed at least 24 American women (in conjunction with the first drug of the chemical abortion regimen, Mifepristone) since its legalization in 2000.
This story is heartbreaking. This young girl had her whole life ahead of her and lost it to a drug touted as “safe.” Meanwhile, the abortion industry in the United States is pushing for even more widespread use of this same drug, promoting it to more young women on college campuses and by mail.
Chemical abortions are even more dangerous than surgical abortions. This is for several reasons.
- First, they occur with no medical supervision as chemical abortion clients are told to stay home, sit on the toilet, and keep flushing.
- Second, the abortion industry is also fighting to remove safety regulations from the drugs, as well as requirements to perform a physical evaluation prior to selling them. This opens the door for undiagnosed ectopic pregnancies (which can be fatal for the mother) or failure to administer RhoGAM for Rh- mothers (which can result in permanent future infertility).
- Third, the drugs are simply very powerful as they must force the woman’s body to stop nourishing the baby, then initiate intense artificial contractions to expel both the baby and the rest of the uterine contents.
An article in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons reports that “Currently, about 39 percent of abortions in the U.S. are drug-induced … Serious complications include ruptured ectopic pregnancies, hemorrhage, infection, and retained pregnancy tissue, which require surgery in as many as one in 20 women.”
This is clearly not safe, easy, or even consistently effective in the way the abortion industry wants you to believe. Our women need real-life solutions, not deadly ones.
